MATZUO 1/0, HOOKS EM! Must read........

First off, BOX, I think this belongs in your world today my friend.

Let me tell you about the incredible white perch action I experienced last night. I know, sounds boring, but read on. Around 4:00pm I called my girlfriend on the phone and asked her if we could go white perch fishing off her grandmothers pier. I told her that all she had to do was show up and I would take care of the rest. After her excited agreement, I made my way down to Anglers off of rte 50 to buy the much needed tackle of which I have zero of. (currently everything is sitting in Scotts boatyard in Buxton NC, along with my ride which is getting a little nose job, thats another story ) So I made my way in with my list, 2 rods and 2 reels, bobbers, 1/8 ounce jig heads and some gotcha white curly worms, grass shrimp, 6-pack of Bud light, bag of ice, O'hh and the most important, the Matzuo 1/0 bait hooks.

I quickly made it to my house to get rigged up. I didnt want to have to do that when I got down there. Ladies, fishing and patience do not mix sometimes. So, the plan was to start with the grass shrimp and then move up to the jigs if that wasnt working. I made my 2 bobber/hook rigs, packed the beer and off I went.

As I arrived at her familys farm the sky was looking a little gloom, but periods of blue sky poked through as a light west wind was starting to pick up. My thoughts, great perch'n weather, were gonna nail em. As I drove down the lane she quickly poped out of the old house that is currently being re-habed and as always she looked as gorgeous as ever. Dressed in her preppy work clothes, blond hair all mangled up from her pony tail............this girl was born to fish (at least I hope so). We looked inside the house to see the daily progress and I was getting impatient, I wanted to fish. She knew, so off we went.

I jumped in my truck and she ran down the side of the property to open the gate to her grandmothers house. I told her to meet me at the pier and I would go and get ready. I pulled up to the staircase down to the dock, hopped out, grabed my rods, cooler and small tackle box and made my way. This pier is awesome, 120 ft, a small little boat house and real nice sitting area, situated 1/4 down the South River. I poped open a cold one, grabbed my grass shrimp and baited up both rods. As I was setting the first rod, she came making her way down the dock. I handed her a rod and we went over the game plan. I told her to fish around the boat house and twitch her grass shrimp around the edges, she was a natural. Only problem was, ZERO BITES.

I was all over the place, casting into mooring lines, hitting the pier, she was questioning what I was doing considering im gone quite a bit working on the boat. (she has never once complained) I told her it was not my day. The real truth is, it was her day.

We put our rods down (still baited) since the fish werent biting and sat under the over hang looking off and talking and laughing as we always do. I knew at that moment, that is was time to do what I really planned that evening.

Last week I fibbed to her about a trip to see one of my vendors in WV. Truth was I was in NY buying her a gift. I wont go into the all the details (thats for me), but I told her that I lied to her and I never went to WV, that I was in NY and that this was why. Well.............to make a long story short, I asked her to marry me, she said yes. This wasnt a yes from some ordinary girl, this was a yes from one of the most patient, gorgeous, down to earth girls you have ever met.

Here's the kicker, the second she said yes one of the rods that was laying on the dock started to flip over the side. I jumped off my knee grabbed the rod and continued to land a nice slab white perch of 11 inches. It was truly amazing. We sat there and laughed ourselves silly. In the bait cooler, I had a nice bottle of champaigne and we sat there and took in the moment. After a while, she was quick to get on the phone to call her friends and parents. I had white perch to catch, and catch I did. They were banging that evening. Nice slabs and even managed a few on the jigs. Those Matzuo bait hooks are the heat.

So, thats my story. A little long, but thats how it happened.

BOX, thanks for letting me post this in your world. Next on her list is a White Marlin, so hopefully we can put her on the Espadon for a day and hook her up.

Sorry you had a slow bite in the beginning but it sounds like you managed a few keepers in the end. Was the bite deep and around the pilings? Usually as night falls that tends to be the best place. I personally would have used the little minows with a spinner blade. What was that other crap you were talkin about? Lets keeps this stuff to fishin!!!!! .

Congrats Karl - I still think we should have stuck to "Plan A" before you met up with her last night
