Well guys we all know that a mates job starts all over when he gets back to the dock. First thing in order is to get the boat and gear cleaned up for the next trip/day. i am going to cover some things that a lot already know but that could use repeating. My way is not the only way so don't take it as such. First thing i do when back to the dock is hose off the rods and reels. Now i built a little stand out of 2" PVC pipe using Tee's and 4 90"s and a bunch of short pieces. (will post a pic when i get home). I place all the rods in this to hose off. First make sure the drags are tight. Levers put in the full drag position, stars tighten down all the way. I use a chamois mitt with the same soap(orp-pine) that i wash the boat with. Gently spray the reels, key word is spray here not a straight stream, to pre-wet and then take the mitt and wash each rod and reel in the holder with soap. I take time to look over the eyes/rollers to make sure nothing was damaged in the days battles that might be a problem the next trip. After soaping them all up i then spray, again not a straight stream, them all off to rinse the soap off. I now can drag the holder i made out of the way to let them dry. Once they are all dry you need to back back off on the drags. This means pulling the levers back to where they just stop the line from coming out and the same for star drag reels. I then go over all the leaders used for that day and rinse them in a bucket of soap and water. Rinse clean and wind up the way we store them to dry. Of course the next step is to clean the boat. There are a ton of ways to do this so no detail here but remember that all the fresh water you can give it is way better than any saltwater. Remember that spray only on the reels to keep from pushing the salt deeper into the reel. If i am not going to use them for awhile i will spray them down with 403 protectant.
