Yes, my apologies. It's said that for months!

I am in Mexico and the shirts are currently in Florida. If you can make yourself a note and PM me around Aug. 24, I'll send you another one, gratis. Don't tell anyone.

You will have to remind me though. Way too much short term memory loss.

    OFFSHORE PROFESSIONAL MATE
I'll admit when I first started mating on a charter boat I was a barker. The excitement over took me, clear this, do that. I'd warn them when I was giving them the safety speach and giving instructions in the morning on the way out. We talk about levels of experience, go go over rigging techniques etc. Most would say let her rip or tell us what you want us to do. We like when the mate gets excited. I try to feel out the crowd and get them ready for the action before game on. I used to clear most of the gear when we would get a fish on, now rarely clear anything. As someone said earlier, keep the baits in the water and watch for the second and third bite, this happens a lot. I try to make sure the crew knows what to do when I say clear the gear everyone knows what to do. Nice and smooth. Proper instruction for the crew makes a big difference. The most occuring event is the angler quits cranking, especially when they see the fish jump. I will utter words of encouragement. When this happens and the fish goes bye bye we put the lines back in and go after another. Its frustrating but it happens. I wouldn't say I've mellowed just matured. The passion is just as strong as it ever was.

This is such a broad topic! Noone should be made to feel like an idiot, but daggon son, when a 350# blue one crashes the long rigger and goes to jumpin, there's no time for hurt feelins!!! CRANK EM UP BOYS!!!!

It's why we do it. It doesn't matter if it's another damn ole donkey...it's still that guys biggest fish he's ever caught and you'd better show some enthusiasm! The cockpit is no place for hurt feelings! Nor is it a place for out of control blatant disrespect. Somewhere in the middle lies the magic of going out there and gettin it done. Showin folks a good time, makin friends, sharin stories (yes I'm sure it does get really rough on the Great lakes) If you dont feel it the first time then book another trip and go again. You only live once...the rip is always an adventure!!!
