How do you tell the difference between a male and female marlin are there any differences?
The books I have indicate there are no external differences between male and female Marlins ( Blue, Black, White or Striped). Therefore, the only way to tell is cut them open.
According to Charles O' Mather, Generally Pacific Blue Marlin greater than 300lbs are female--- smaller fish are comprised of both sexes.
The male marlin has a pecker.
DONT KNOW ABOUT THE MALES BUT HOLD OUT A CREDIT CARD AND THE FEMALES LIGHT RIGHT UP
Yup...
Visually there are no distinguishing marks. Fight wise though the little male is a son of a ***** on the end of a string. They pound for pound are over the top strong. They seem to go places the she fish won't when fighting. We encounter quite a few of what I believe to be males in the pocket. They're harder to hook and when we do they have a tendency to run for the shallower water. I have vid, sucky as it is of one that took me into 20 feet and you can see him running between coral heads...![]()
On the leader they tend to stay strong and determined and getting them to calm down just seems to never happen.
If the fish has trouble picking which skirt they want...defiantly a female!!! The males usually grab the first skirt they see!!!![]()
