    making wind-on leaders...

is there a diagram that has recommended mono # sizes for each type of hollow core when making leaders...

My question is concerning using #130 JB with something like 80# mono...or even 60# mono...also is there any issue with using two different sizes hollow core in the loop to loop connection if I do need to step down in leader material hollow core...

I'll be respooling 50's and don't really need the 130# but its by far the cheapest and will still give way more line than I should ever need...80/100# leaders will probably be the norm...

Use 80lb hollow spectra for 60lb-80lb mono or fluoro. There are no issues with connecting dissimilar test hollow spectra loops...just line up evenly and pull tight.

Basil...does that run pretty consistent?...meaning use 100# hollow for 80/100 mono...and then step up to #130 hollow for 130 mono...

Also how much hollow will it take to fill a Daiwa SLT50...I'm considering using the Momoi Diamond Braid in either #100 or #130...running 50 yard leaders for the top shot lengths...
My thoughts were that I could have a couple different leaders made up with different mono #'age and leave them spooled on the spools they come in...is that an option or will I have problems with the mono deteriorating...

Personally, I'd fill the reel with a gel spun braid instead of hollow core. You get much more capacity with on of the super braids. I use the hollow core for my handcuffs on my mono leaders, tie a triple surgeons loop in the braid, and connect the two with a loop-loop.

Curious if anyone has ever tested a solid core braid triple Surgeon's loop vs a Bimini twist.

Never tested one versus the other, however the triple surgeons is much easier to tie, and will hold whatever is on the other end. This is how I set up my tuna outfits, and have never had the first bit of trouble.

I had thought about going that route also...just didn't need the 14 miles of line it would take to fill it...my guestimate was that the 100# hollow core would give me about 1000 yards and still have room for the topshot...130# would be in the 700 yard range with room left over...with it being more of and oval iwas hoping it wouldn't dig into itself as bad...

I have spun on all my other reels (bottom fishing and trolling)and for my bottom fishing rig it seems to bury itself under extreme pressures...for trolling its fine as the drags lighter for kings and mahi...

From what I have read on other boards the surgeons loop (from 3 to 6 wraps) is the way to go over the bimini...and easier to tie...

Do you wet pack you reels after you spool them? I've never had any trouble with the braid cutting in to it's self after wet packing.

yes they are wet packed...its just after all the drops bottom fishing where I don't tension the line enough when reeling it up from the bottom...its usually right after that I hook something big and it bites into itself some what...its not bad...its just a little annoying on the next drop...

I was looking at the hollow more for the knotless splicing ability

I haven't seen that reel but my guess would be around 600 yards of 100lb Diamond braid plus your various topshots. Diamond braid has slightly larger diameter than the other hollow lines, making it easier to splice. For 130lb mono, get some 200lb hollow to make the sleeves.
