    Mahi in close 6-14-09

Kay and I had a great morning out of Bogue inlet Sunday. We started out after mahi and were prepared to take the Mak'N Do as far as it took to find them. We were armed with ballyhoo and a few artificals like dolphin weenies and chuggers. We didn't go too far and decided to try close when a late night tip from a freind said a few were caught there on Saturday. We were up at 4:30 and had the boat dunked at 5:15. We were the second boat to arrive at the spot and it did not take long until we had a reel telling the sweet zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs. First hit was on a pink weenie with a porkrind. 15lber in the box. Wasn't long and the same weenie had fooled another. We had 5 nice gaffers in the box by 7:30. Then things slowed for a while as about 25 boats converged on our play ground. We slid over to a couple miles about 9:00 and pretty soon another reel went to begging. As I was passing it off to Kay, I saw a green lit up bandit streak across the spread grab another weenie and we brought 2 more in to the future fish fry. We quit a 12:15 with 8 nice gaffers, 1 17lb king, released 1 shark and still had not used all of the first pack of ballies. Maybe my hoos don't swim good but half of our mahi would swim past a bally to get to the weenie. Who cares, they worked.
Our batting average was perfect, every fish that hit came aboard.

Guess it doesn't matter what they decide to hit - as long as they get the long ice nap back to the inlet...

    Nice catch

Congrats on your trip. It is good to see the results of dolphin weenies at work. Would you be willing to give us a range of distances the dolphin were from shore?

we went outa bogue today as well and saw plenty of dolhpin...

we were close as well, probably same area.

Flyers were airing ALLLLLL the way from like 2 miles past the inlet.

Was fun, then stopped and got some AJ's on topwaters on the way home

BEST part about today...no boat traffic

Good fishing Greg and Kay! Seems to me that you two have been calling your shots pretty darn good so far this season.

I keep hearing about these weenies, but never have used one. So they are that good huh?!?

Good to see you and the wife spending some QT on the water. Gotta get mine that eager to fish as well.

Edited to add: One thing I like about you, whenever you go out the doors to hunt/fish, I know something is going to die!
