Made up my mind
Alright guys, I have made up my mind.
I am going with a center console.
What boats would you look for if you were trying to stay under $40k, really $30-$35k in the 25-28 ft range w/ twin power.
I have seen some newer boats of lesser quality w/ newer power in that price range and I have also seen some of the "higher end" boats w/ older two strokes in that price range.
Can you give me an idea what I should look at?

DO WHAT??
Parker,Hydra-Sports,Kencraft(Sea King),Grady?? Just take your time and look around there are a million boats out there for sale,If you find one that you like take it on a sea trial! Test several before you settle on one,There are others than what I named above but those boats are built tough and you can probaly find a nice one in your price range. Good Luck in whatever you buy.

Crab mustard is good
Jay, for that money I would do some serious shopping. I have to beleive that it would be a boat that the owner is "moving up" on. If you like i'll be out and about in OC tommorrow and can take a look see. I commute from OCMD to the Wash DC area 4 days a week and pass many aboat dealer (new and used) on the way. If your not in to much of a hurry I'll check with them on kent island next week. One of the dealers is a friend of mine. I would want a head in the console good solid T-top and an alum trailer if possible I don't want to buy somebody elese's electronics as it might not match my needs so that's not a selling point in my opion. I (persoally)would also be more inclined toward an older model boat with good upkeep and newer or fresh rebuild power. But that's what I'm running (it's paid for). Alot of what you get in a cc is really what want. There's alot of good boats out there in the 25' range.
Just my 2cents worth though. pm me if you want me to check here on the Md. eastern shore.

25ftr!
I have a 25 ft Sea Vee(90' model)with an aluminum bracket. Just repowered with twin 140 Suzukis. Getting 2 MPG at 4000 RPMs,27 knts. Great ride, flush deck, lots of storage. I fish this boat round trip around 130 miles per trip in 2 to 4 ft seas or less. Older boats are excellent choices for repower as long as the hull, stringers, and transom are in good shape. Look out this winter, thats when you can find you a deal as most don't wish to hold it thru threw winter. And don't forget to keep an eye out on this site, theres always someone willing to turn loose a nice boat. Good luck!

Ace
Hey Ace, I will keep that in mind.
I have seen a couple older Reg. 26's for sale that might be available in my price range.
Only thing is, with a boat that size and ox66's, wouldnt they drink some fuel?
I want to have an idea what I can expect as far as the pump goes before I buy.
Keep em coming.
-
DO WHAT??
AS far as OX66 motors they are the best motors Yamaha has ever built!!
I don't have proof of that on paper but the are workhorses that never seem to quit! The new 4strks are great also but I don't run them, but your definetly gonna get better gas mileage, but in your price range I very seriously doubt your gonna find a boat with newer 4strks.

I know if I will not find four stroke power in my price range but possibly hpdi's on a mid tier boat.
Could some of you guys that run 26 Reg's w/ ox66's give me an idea as far as fuel burn?
-
I run a 23 sea hunt with a single 200 hp Ox66
Fuel # for mine go something like this...
1800 rpm 5 g/h 6-7 knts
3500 rpm 8 g/h 18 knts
4000 rpm 11 g/h 24 knts
4500 rpm 13 g/h 28 knts
5000 rpm 18 g/h 32 knts
5500 rpm 22 g/h 34 knts
Thats a single engine application on a fairly light boat... Hope it helps you out a bit. The thing is a work horse. She just wants to run.

You should expect an average of about a mile per gallon on a 26 regulator with two strokes. Only a little better (1.3- 1.5) with 4 strokes. A great, solid and heavy boat that needs some fuel to move.
Any twin no direct injected two stroke rig will do no better than 1.5 to 1.7 miles per gallon on average.
On your budget and if fuel burn is important you may want to consider a single outboard (direct injection or four stroke) in the 22-25 foot range.
Good luck,
SeaBiscuit
