A good friend and I had the great pleasure of hosting two marines for the 5th annual MAD event Saturday. Both men had done some saltwater fishing in the past but never offshore. Our goal for the day was to find them some Mahi for the table but mostly to provide these guys a good time and hopefully a few memories in the process.
Talking with a few friends who fished Friday they talked of a good bite in the deep with the mahi and some billfish but way up the beach. Both men were at the Jaycee dock at the agreed upon 5:15 Pulled the throttles back in 80 fathoms on the 800 line and right out of the box the center rigger snaps but doesn't come tight, drop back and got em on. Get Silas on the rod when a white marlin puts on a little show for us before pulling the hook. Reset the mess and work a little edge where the grass is forming when the Mahi find us
Next up is Javier
Continued to pick at them for a little while when a blue one paddles in and window shops the spread but won't commit. Make a lap or two looking for a repeat with no love. get back on the edge when this stud comes charging out.
From that point on our day as host got easier. Added a few more fish to the fish box and had plenty of laughs with these guys
On the ride in had a little scare when the port engine alarm sounds. Shut em down raise the motor and a plastic bag clears off the intake. Lower it back down and off we go.
A big thanks to all the volunteers who took people fishing or worked behind the scenes, an event of this size is alot of work. I was glad to play a part in it and hope to do it again next year
