What type of chart plotter do you have? Some will display your location in GPS or Loran. The Loran isnt perfect as it is making a translation, but its really close.

No transition. The LORAN system has been shut down entirely.
GPS conversions are now entirely based on chart plotting estimations.

I bought a segull's offshore chart and it shows gps coords for fishing hotspots as well as loran lines. After studying the chart for a day or so, you'll have the loran lines and locations figured out.

Other than the fact that folks have been used to the lines for the last 40 years it's much easier to picture in your head lines in that format.

Right, GPS uses an algorithm to convert to LORAN numbers, not LORAN signals. It's not spectacularly accurate, but when given LORAN wreck numbers by friends we always had to hunt and peck for them anyway. IMHO the repeatability of LORAN was better from unit to unit, but once you find the spot and mark the waypoint in your GPS you can hit it almost perfectly every time.

I'm not going to get into a rant about the government, redundancy and wasted upgrades here but there's a lot to be said. Sadly, it will do no good.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.
