That was a great post! I was asking about them not too long ago. I've never fished with live bait and would love to be able to! Whoever it was that mentioned a post about how to use them had a good idea!![]()

Ditto on the butter knife for bait removal, cheap/free, usually everyone has a few mismatched ones sitting in the drawer.
Always handle the baits as little as possible when de-hooking, helps them stay better in the livewell.
I love mine. The only thing wrong with these things is when you have to string the line back through to the tip again!
Lee,
I have one of those rods that I bought back at the old Stanley's Tackle shop on Wrightsville Ave.
We keep it on the boat at all times. We have hooked everything from Spanish and Kings to cigar minnows on it.
One of my boys is a student of sabiki rigs and keeps a tackle box full of different types. He is actually pretty good at targeting species with the sabiki.
Nice post Capt. Lee. You are the man.
Thanks Capt. Lee always a good source of information, thank you for sharing. I am ashamed to admit that I have some rigs in my bag of tricks but have never used them. Quite pitifull I would say. Never saw a rod before. Makes great sense to me, guess this dog's gotta learn some more tricks. Thanks, Frank
He says basically that all sabikis are not created equal. One day we were jigging up bait and catching very small sardines, and he switched the rig to a different type and started catching bigger ones.
He will also go down to the docks at wrightsville beach and catch all kinds of fish on them. Flounder, trout, spanish, pinfish, etc.
He is off at school but I will see if I can get him to provide more info.
