    Log Book question !!

I have been fishing offshore for years. I gather intel days before, look at the SST and troll around where I belive there are fish. This has worked very well over the years.

I want to start to track my fishing and would like to see how you guys have set up your log books. SO LETS SEE THEM.

I've got a buddy who's putting together a searchable database log book... should be ready in a couple weeks. Charter Captain version (w/parties names and contact info.) and recreational version. Both are "shareable" if you'd like others to have access.

I got a book laid out that(like cowboy's) way as a christmas gift. beleive it might have come from boater's world. Weems & Plath used to make a pocket sized, waterproof
log so you could note it and transfer it later. little yellow book, really waterproof too. You could also make it on a spread sheet and three ring binder.

if you are familiar with Excel, you can create whatever fields you want to capture. I record date, wind, temp, tide, moon phase, target fish, location, depth, tackle/bait and leave the last field for comments.

with this approach you can either print paper copies to keep on board or just enter the information into a computer or laptop - or both - keep a paper copy to scribble things into and then enter on the computer later on. Keeping it in the computer then allows you to sort by location, time of year, whatever.

If you arent familiar with Excel, I bet that somebody you know is, and would be willing to set it up for you. You can make the fields as large or small as you want, and after using it for a while, it is really easy to change things around, add fields, delete them, etc.

then if you want to get really fancy, you can add links or attachments with photos or other info.

    good luck.
