LIVE Bait for GBFT this winter in MHC???

Hey guys, today I was thinking to myself, does anyone in NC do the live bait thing for Bluefins off MHC??? Whether it be commercial or rec fishing? I know alot of trolling goes on up there and I have definately froze my nuts off dragging baits for them a few times but I would thing that if you could find some decent live bait then you might be able to do alright out there. Anyways, I was just tossing it around in my head and I was wondering if it has been done. If they don't tighten up the restrictions on BFT this winter I might drag the boat up there and give it a shot for a week or so. Can't you find bluefish off the beach in early january?

What if I loaded up my livewells and hauled up a few hundred or more finger mullets? I have 180 gallons of livewell space in the boat and I have 3 big ole 55 gallon drums that I converted into livewells for the truck when I catch bait down in miami and haul it up to west palm beach. I have over 1000 baits in the wells for up to 2 days with the aerator and the recirculating pumps going. Most of the baits lived and the dead ones get frozen.

So... who wants to give it a shot with me in january???

here is the boat... No HEAT but she is pretty dry for a CC. Bring your balls and a coffee thermos!!!

Flat, you are welcome on my rig anytime bro! Whether it is in NC or South FLA. I won't drift in anything bigger than 4-6 b/c it tends to get a pretty sketchy on some of the "rogue sets". I figure that if the pogeys are around we can net the hell out of em em and live chum. Are there any legal requirements for cast nets in NC? I don't think there are but just double checking. I have a 12' and a 14' that I would bring. Not many fish can escape the 14 footer!!! I will even strap another 55 gal drum on the bow if it is needed. If it gets snotty then I guess I could surf fish and get some snapper blues for the well. I wonder if it would be easy to find a rental slip in MHC in the winter??? Any one got any info on slips? I know I am talking about this way early but I need to get my ducks in a row for a trip of this nature. It is 637 miles to Ft Bragg from my new place so MHC should be another 3 hours from there. I AM AMPED ABOUT THIS TRIP!!!! IT WILL HAPPEN!!! PICS TO FOLLOW IN JANUARY!!! HEY BOX... wanna rent a room to me for a few weeks? I bring no drama and NO women to annoy you!!!

Good luck. I will be anticipating the report on this one. I'd love to go but I think I will be earning my pay.
Be ready for multiple hook-ups and the tuna using their favorite TTP, swimming in opposite directions.

I have always wondered why the guys down south dont use live blues or pogies on the giants down there. Up here thats mostly all we do, besides some chunking in the fall way east. You can count me in for a spot if one is still open!

They do occasionally use big shad that you catch with snag rigs or a net. 5 or 6 years ago, there was a lot of bait and a good live bait bite. However I haven't seen the big piles of yesteryear in a while. I just can't help but wonder if ogema isn't scooping them up in the bay before they have a chance to winter off morehead.

Brother,,,,,,,, MY PLACE...... I am right across the street from the marina and the boat ramp is right there. Less than 100 yards from the house. The marina has open slips now, so I imagine that January won't be a problem.
