    A little friendly reminder

I caught the last few minutes of a news report this morning on the local station. Apparently an out of town woman hit the partially submerged wall leading to the north jetty yesterday at Wrightsville Beach resulting in a wrecked boat and serious injuries. This happens several times a year.

It dawned on me that today is the "official start of the summer season."

As I'm sure you are aware the waterways will be crammed with thousands of folks some of which will be splashing their rides for the first time this year.

Just want to remind my SFC compadres that boating safety is not just about what we do but what the other guy is doing as well.

Do your safety check BEFORE you leave the dock and have a safe holiday and expect that you will be all back here next week safe and sound.

Don't even get me started about the Jet skies, Kayaks and the like.

you are right, it does happen a couple times a year.....if im not mistaken, another "out of town woman" ran her rig on the jetty back in jan. or feb already this year.

i think im going to hide in my house this afternoon and not emerge until i have to be back at work tuesday morning. its gonna be a madhouse around here.

Lou- This is an excellent post!

Since many people will be splashing for the first time- go over the checklist of all your safety items and make sure your flares didn't expire.

Have the USCG Auxillary do an inspection just in case you might have forgotten something. Check over everything in your boat.

Watch out for the people that in my opinion, shouldn't even be allowed to operate a boat(some drive worse on the water than they do in the car).

Also.......One last thing******* I hope everyone on this site has a Fantastic Holiday!!

PS. About the jet skies- yeh, alot of the drivers are nuts, but I have 2 and enjoy the shit out of them way back away from the main boating traffic.
