LINE FAILURES ??
I'm gonna start by saying the line that is pissing me off is not Ande, I have always been and Ande man and you can bet your butt I am going back.
OK, I have been using this so called greater than white bread mono with unbelievable breaking strength line that is supposed to be the top of the line line (and it cost about twice as much as the rest ). I label all my reels when they are spooled up so I know how old the line is at any given moment. Now keep in mind I'm not running a charter boat so I don't fish every day. Generally we swordfish about 5 to 8 time a year when I bring out my wlrs 50 w/60# mono. Today I was re-rigging some tackle and my line was breaking as I tied on swivels This line is 1 1/2 yr old and has been fished no more than 10 times and it is rotten, yea rotten as hell. Had I of been crimping instead of tieing my lines I would have never known it had gone bad. Now my question. I know the line manufactures can tell how old the line is by the sequel#. But can they design it to rot in 2 years? Even though my line has been on the reel for less than 1 1/2 I really don't know how old the line actually is. It could have been on the shelf for 3 years and on the reel for 1 1/2 and it's way pass it usable life. It seems like some of these "better lines" are designed to rot. Line is to dam expensive to have to be replaced after 10 days of fishing. For a charter boat thats new line every 1 1/2 weeks ![]() I have got a 3000 yd spool that I bought about 1 1/2 years ago, it feels good and strong but will go to crap in 6 months ? What's been your experiences ? Capt Rick Last edited by rarhomes; 07-21-2009 at 09:19 PM. |

I have been a momoi believer for about 5-6 years but now am using strictly suffix superior on all rods and even for my leader material. Never any problems. I do thin momoi diamond does not have the breaking strength of Suffix Superior. I've used Ande and believe Ande is great as well.

I'm gonna guess what line it is but wont use the "D" word heree as it may offend others that got sucked into paying double for it too. I can tollerate ande. Was my go to for years... The reason? Consistent!
I found a better one though years ago. Again the key word is... CONSISTENT! Ol Sufix superior has been on my stuff now for a decade with no issue. They have a couple high dollar tripolymers in their line up that I don't care for. Just give me the superior and call it a day. I go out of my mind with bad line and the line I think you're talking about has let me down on other peoples boats to the point I won't use their gear if I do go. Chub Cay is the ultimate torturetest for string. Several hundred dolphin, cudas, billfish, etc basically keep or rods bent most of the day every day. Lets call it an hour fighting time per outfit every day for weeks on end with no issues... |

Capt. Rick,
I had the same thing the end of last year on some30's. Then the same thing this spring on some 50's. Each group of reel's was spooled at the same time and line started letting go at the same time aswell. I found out the same way as you, tying and breaking knot's. Funny how it all let loose at the same time. Frank

i don't like superior at all, love sufix tritainium and haven't had any problems with that "D" stuff ya'll are talking about. Ande is good stuff, especially the pink. Have seen too many spools of superior be bad.

I can guess which line it was, it was fine till it got wet or you put it in the sun. Threw away 700.00 worth of the stuff after two trips.
I use Ande Period. JW

My experience has been this. Put white 130# Jerry Brown Hollow on the back and chinese handcuff on a top shot of 80# sufix superior. That set up can not be denied.
The only change might be a 100# top shot instead of 80, if you are going after fish over 300lbs.
