    Light Tackle Bonita 4/18

Took a friend of mine and his dad, who was in town for the weekend, out on the skiff today in search of bonita. We pulled out of New River intet about 7am and were greeted by a beautiful sky and calm conditions. Motored around for a while trying to find any fish working the top and ended up finding a mark just off the bottom that looked good. Dropped a couple different jigs and it was game on for the skiff slaughter. Ended up keeping a couple each to put on the grill and make a little sushi. We each released a few more as well. Had the boat back at the house and both the fish and boat cleaned by 3:00. Also sent my buddies dad home to Raleigh with his first north carolina saltwater fishing citation for an 8lb bonita. Not to bad for 12lb spinning tackle and 7' trout rods. All in all a great saturday on the water. Enjoy the pics including a pretty good bloodbath shot for a 19' skiff!

Heard it was good out there today. I'll be out there Wed. or Thurs. and try the weekend too. I'd go tomorrow if I didn't have the seminar tomorrow.

They were probably in the Divers Rock area, and actually those Atlantic Bonito are good eating. They are only in the area for about 2 weeks so enjoy.
