    LIFE TIME OF A HOOK

How many times do you use a circle hook and what type of hook is it? I have used them all and have noticed that some will last longer before they loose there point. The one that I have seen hold its point the longest is the Owner, but it has the samllest barb. I am not a fan of this hook, to me it is a thick wire J hook with a turned in point. The Mustad and VMC are my choice. They have the biggest barb, thin wire and they stay sharp over night. Lately my skipper has been making me use Eagle Claws. I like them, they have a huge barb, they are alittle thicker wire then the Mustad or VMC. What I have noticed is these hooks looke there point overnight. I have started rigging in the morning cause the hooks seem to loose there point overnight in the cooler. Forget about using them again unless you are going the next day. Im not a fan of using hooks twice, but I see guys that have are using hooks three and four times over a couple weeks and these guy have no problem hooking them. So my question is how many times will youre use a rig and what type hook are you using.

it was one fish per owner when it was slow. Every hook was inspected for bent point or broken ones every fish.

Mustad 39951bln light wires got my nod... They are and stay sharp. For the sail/ dolphin/ kings and light tackle they are just dandy. I can use em til I have caught a fish as they keep a tip on em. I toss em though after that fish. I have noticed that I can get them to straighten out some if I'm leadering a fish on say 50lb leader.
For whites I have upped it to 8/0 in that model or slightly heavier.
For blues I have been hovering on their 39955Z hook. Still fairly light guage diameter of the wire but the z steel is strong enough to fish on 50 or 80 without too much issue... The gap on say their 14/0 is larger than ec's 18/0...
