    Question Libertarian Party?

Recently, I saw that a few people that I really respect support the Libertarian party. I have to admit that I have never really taken the time to find out what they are all about.

Today since I had politics on the mind and my curiosity was sparked I took a minute to go to the web site to read what they are all about (http://www.lp.org/platform) and I have got to tell you .... IT MAKES A LOT OF SENSE!!!!
It sounds the most "American" of all of the parties!!!

Honestly ... I'm just so tired of the massive swings from extreme right to extreme left and a constant civil political war. Am I missing something or does this look like it could be the answer to bring it all back together?

I'm not campaigning here ... I bring forth the question to all of you because I know I have a lot in common with a lot of you. I sincerely want your opinions and some help to further educate myself. So ... have a read and tell me what you think. What are the down sides that I am missing? Why has this party not gained any momentum???

    Does not work

Every time a third partry gets a percentage of the vote A Liberal Demacrat gets voted in. I wish these people would wake up and quit being spoilers.

I agree ... but it is that thought process that will never let something like this off the ground. I am not saying vote Libertarian but maybe its time we start paying attention to it and talking about it so we can give it some momentum.

I think the TPP have the rite idea which is to get candidates that have the same values voted into their party of choice, that being the Republicans.

ummm thats the opposite of what usually happens since the third party usually appeal to moderate democrats. therefore the conservative republican usually reaps the benfits. look at the florida senate race from yesterday.

I posted in mix it up about the Modern Whig Party. I really like them better than libertarians.

    I Personally,

would have more respect for a candidate to simply say, "I'm not a mamber of any party"! I don't see the reason for this "party" garbage anyhow. Simply get up on the stump, say what you mean and mean what you say. The idea of "owing" anyone but the American People, is way we've got such a **** eyed/get nothing done system we have now. Just my 2 cent's, Frank

Nauti - You sound sensible as all get out.

I'm an independent voter but I lean heavily Libertarian. Libertarians are what conservatism used to be all about until the corporate hacks got a strangle hold on the Republicans.

I completely agree with you about the wild swings in government policies. It mystifies me why more people don't see how harmful that is.

Here in Texas we have Ron Paul. Although he's nominally a Republican, he is the recognized Texas leader of the Libertarian party. What he says makes tons more sense than what the Republicans say and certainly more than the Democrats say.

This year for the first time ever, the Libertarian party was available as a straigh-party ticket vote on the Texas ballot. I'm personally disgusted with the two primary parties, so, I voted straight Libertarian...with absolutely no regrets.

Actually, the Libertarians did pretty well in Texas this mid-term election cycle. They lost no seats and picked up a few. So, I'm really encouraged.

At one time, there was some talk of the Libertarians and the Tea Party joining forces. But the GOP, steadfast in its desire to have a civil war within it's ranks, instead coopted the Tea Party and inculcated them into the GOP's ranks. At least, that's what seems to be the direction that things are going.

That's too bad. American needs multiple viable parties, period. Then even the dominant parties that might not enjoy a majority in the Congress would be forced to form coalitions to govern. In that way, more and more of the middle class would be heard instead of just the rich elites who have captured both of the major parties.

You can continue your investigation of the Libertarians by attending some of their rallys and fund raising events. They don't demand a lot from their members. They don't ceaselessly beat you up for money or time. But the whole thing's absolutely contagious and even exhilerating...to think that you're among those who actually believe in civil liberties and limited government rather than just talk that way in the few months leading up to an election.

I remember taking a poll 2 years ago in which the summation of my answers said that I was a libertarian. I hardly knew of the party at the time. I certainly am for small gov't and individual rights/liberties. I believe there are many more that believe in the same thing, and you will hear more of this movement in the future.
