Man, great thread, inspired me to join so this is my first post. I have mostly fished the waters off of deep south Texas from the family's 36' Bertram or from a 24' cuddy cabin that i used to have. I had the pleasure of dancing with quite a few blues from the cuddy cabin so here's my $0.02.
    - I had a fighting chair in the cockpit, I feel that this was addition was worth it's weight in gold when it came to fighting larger fish
    - When we'd go out to deep water (100 fathoms plus) we fished four penn 50 wides for flats and riggers and a penn 80 wide off of a center rigger positioned way, way back in the spread. I'd guess that 8 out of 10 blues that hit were on the long line, 100% of the fish that were over 250# hit the long line.
I'm all for having pitch baits but on a smaller boat they take up space, a luxury small boats don't have.

In short I guess that I'd say that I usually fished the cuddy the same way that we'd fish the sportfisher, just on a smaller scale and had great success. I feel that pulling any more than 5 lines has the potential to cause confusion and problems.
Keep your baits in the clear water, remember that there is nothing wrong with catching "grocery fish" on a marlin trip and have fun with it.

Reel Hard (great name!), thanks for the input. When it comes down to small boats and brute marlin, hooking up a monster black or blue that's not much shorter than the 23 foot, narrow beamed panga you're fishing from, ala Fishermens Fleet ones down in the Baja, is one of most incredible fishing experiences one can have! Having one of those wild beasts doing its "things", right next to the boat and virtually at eye level is, well, stupefying, to say the least. I love it!

And hey, considering the fact that you and a partner can do it for three days for about $750 bucks total each, including airport transfers in Mex, hotel accomodations, bait, ice, meals, plus expert fish cutting and vac sealing and freezing of meat fish that you can take home with you, makes it a nearly unbelievable value too. Visit our website and check out the Fishermens Fleet section for details. It's pretty amazing!
