Why wont my para vane board Move?

Telling my 14 year old son, over the school holidays, some of our more bizarre, past fishing experiences, and there were many.

We were Shark fishing off Point Lonsdale pier, back in the early 80s.
The good old para vane board being our only method, getting our big baited rigs some 300 odd meters out to sea.
On this particular night, I set my para vane in motion, with a 3kg tuna as bait, any way, my rig would go out about 20 meters then stop, "must be caught in some sea weed", wind the rig back in, no sea weed, Oh well try again, after 3 or 4 more attempts, I reeled in a nearly new looking 12 speed push bike ?
However the problem still stayed, 20 meters out my rig would stop, " this was really starting to piss me off".
Then finally, the cause was revealed, "One Dirty Big Octopus".
Once landed, and Ocy sitting in the middle of the large pier, his tentacles inching out to well over 15 feet long, The biggest Ocy I'd ever seen.
As for the push bike, my wacky mates rode the bike up and down the pier for hours.
By launch time the next day, I decided to have a go on my newly acquired bike, as i went to peddle away, the chain broke, the back wheel collapsed, and one side of the handle bars snapped off. "Good Old Salt Water".
As for my octopus, 2 Italian blokes gave me $75.00 for him.

Cheers.
