I drove to my friend Mark's camp Saturday afternoon. I got there about 5: 30 pm. He had arrived just a little before i did. He was on the dock catching redfish! he had been fishing for about 5 minutes. I got one of my rods that had a jig on it and in about another 5 minutes we had our limits (5 each) on the dock.
this was to be the first night fishing trip of the season so we had some work to do to get the lights, generator(6500 watt Honda inverter, it is a beast for two men to lift), and whatnot loaded in the boat.
A little before dark we were lined out and headed into the lake. we tried a little top water action before dark with no luck. so we anchored on the reef we were going to fish first. after about an hour, with not much bait in the lights and only a fish or two we decided to run a little more out in the lake. conditions at the first spot were, sw wind of 3 knots, clarity about a 3 out of 10 and little tide movement.
the second spot had a little better visibility and the tide was coming in a little better. there were mullet jumping when we anchored. It was pretty slow for the first 45 minutes and we were contemplating moving again when Mark T. caught a trout over 22". the action kept picking up and we ended up catching a Big Lake limit (15 each) of trout. before we left i told mark i wanted to try my favorite lure a bit. so i threw it for about 15 minutes and caught 3 more nice trout and he caught a couple of more on a jig, all of which we released. Mark T. is such a Meat hauler. the next day he commented that the last 5 we caught that we had to release was not near as much fun as the first 5 that we kept.....
After returning to the dock, it was after midnight and the redfish were there. mark T. caught one. i said i was wpt and was ready for some shut eye. he kicked it back in the water and we hit the sack.
we slept late Sunday morning. we went out and caught 7 or 8 before it got real hot.
the picture of the redfish in the cast net was Sunday morning when i was catching bait. That is a limit of of reds in one cast!
I made it back to Baton Rouge in time to watch the last two innings of the LSU-UCI game. should have fished longerThe boat and camper are still loaded. I hope I find a place to move our operation before that next fishing trip because there is a lot of stuff I really don't have a place to put it all.
One thing yall will learn about me is I never give up because the lemonade is so sweet!!!!
