On Monday the bossman, Tex, chartered the stream weaver to take us out on an exploratory trolling/jigging trip in the stream. Took off from the dock about 5:15 and headed north. Lines in at 7:45 and it was not long before we had a few mahis in the box. Shortly after we raised a sail but couldn't get hooked up. Oh well, it was still cool seeing a billfish. At about 10:30 Huff was starting to get some good marks in about 275 ft so in comes the trolling gear and down goes the jigs. First drop hook up with a 30 lb aj. Then arlen hooks up and then Justin. It went on like this for two hours with at least two of us hooked up on ajs at a time. About an hour into the catch fest we finally hook into what we were looking for, tuna. Managed to land two tuna on the jig. One on a long jig and one on a rear weighted jig. One was about a 10 pound blackfin and the other a yellofin about the same size. They were not huge but tuna just the same. Tex also jigged a red grouper in 300 feet of water. WE finished the day on the troll and then headed in. Huff stopped at 35 miles and we jigged another grouper, a few sea bass and a couple of nice triggers. For me it was definitely a trip for the record books with the final tally being 20 gaffers, 3 tuna, a wahoo (got cut off twice by wahoo on the jig), a red and a scamp grouper, two trigger fish, two big black sea bass, some pinkies and beelinerrs, and about 30-40 ajs in the 20-50 pound range. We had a very colorful fishbox to say the least. PIcks of the kill to come as well as some awesome action shots.
