    Last trip of the year

Hit some snags today looking for some Tog.

The weather was a little snotty but we made the best of it.

Had around 18 keepers up to 10 LBS and a bunch of shorts for the boat. I had the pool winner, one other keeper and a few throw backs.

Looks like tomorrow will be the day to go... It layed down as we were wrapping it up which gave us a nice ride home.

I think that this will be it for me this year.

Here is a picture of my personal best... I haven't done much blackfishing in the past but I had a great time (except for the weather) and am looking forward to next season.

Thanks Capt. Tom Joseph for a great trip and all the guys that let me come along.

With fish like that ,why stop? I never really thought of it before coming to SFC, about you guy's up North pulling your boats and calling it quit's. It get's cold here too sometime's, but I think that would make for a long miserable winter. Can't imagine not being able to at least go fish.Frank

giantfan- Excellant shots there. Love those tog, pretty fish.

    Frank-
That was one of the biggest issues I had to get use to when I moved down to NC and began working the boats.Being told that there wasn't any charter business from Thanksgiving to around Easter, I almost fell to the floor. Up there, there is ALWAYS something to catch and ALWAYS somebody STUPID ENOUGH to try and catch it. That made for some COLD ASS DAYS!

There are some guys that keep their boats in all year up here but it gets a bit too cold for me. My boat has been out of the water for about 6 weeks already. When the marina shuts down the water at the dock I usually pull my boat, It kills me not being able to wash the boat at the end of the day.

You also have to worry about everything freezing on the boat, I'm sure it does get cold down there but not to the extent that we get it up here.

There are party boats that run all year for offshore bottom fish (black sea bass, porgy, ling, ect...) but I am usually busy doing my honey do list so once the boat is back in the water I don't have to be bothered.

When I get the itch really bad... I will go down to the inlet and catch some herring from the bulkhead to get my fix.

I need to move down south!!!!!

    Giantfan,

Nice white chin! Yum! Those are some tasty fish. Cunning biters, too.

As an old Jersey boy, I hear ya on the cold. I can remember running my commercial skiff behind party boats out of Atlantic Highlands while they broke the ice so I could get out and fish. Had to time the return trips to coincide with the head boats coming back in or I was in big trouble! Lot's of tog, whiting, ling and even cod back in those days.

I could never even come close to that nowadays. Hell, it's getting down to a bit over fifty degrees out here at night and I'm freezing my old, California softened butt off!

Do the chores and read a little maybe.

Gotta put another sweatshirt and sweat pants on...the Labbies want to take me for a drag. Brrrr! Must only be about fifty five or sixty out there about now.

The togs are on my "to catch" list for next year. Nice going, bet they tasted pretty good, can't wait to try fishing for them.
