Knot question for the riggers out there.

I have been working on my knot tieing skills, I am no master by any stretch but i think i am getting pretty good at most of the basic knots. The only one i am having a little bit of a problem with is the bimini twist. I know how to tie it and have been getting better at it. Braid seems to be the easiest both hollow and solid and the smaller mono lines are pretty good , but when i get up in the 50lb class lines and above it just does not want to twist. Any pointers or is it just a matter of practice and getting to know the way different lines react to different knots.

I have the same issue, the small stuff is a sweat. The 50 and over stuff is a pain.

The only advice I can give is keeping things tight, that has helped me a bunch.

But I mainly tie that stuff for fun, rarely use it in the water.
The triple overhand I use mainly for the braid these days. When it comes to mono I try to crimo as much as possible.

    Just my way..

    Yeah man,

Tying biminis in mono: Start out with short ones, six feet with 30 -50 lb of a high quality brand. If you are right handed, double the line by the length of your wingspan. Use you right hand to twist the line twenty one times, while holding tight on the left. Now sit in a folding chair that you have standing by. Put both of your bare feet (or non abraisive soled shoes) in the bottom loop while still holding tight on the open end with your left hand, use your other hand to put the loop around your feet and then use it to push the bottom loop up so you can fit your knees in the loop. Now holding the main line with your left hand and the loose end with your right, you will be able to use your knees and hands to tighten down that twist. You want to tighten it down to around six inches in length. Once youve tighted down that twist to 6 inches, now with the free end in your right hand you need to move your hand and line slowly at an angle toward your feet, if you do it correctly the top twist (one closest to your body) will roll over the other twists. Now you will use a combination of pressure from your hands and your knees to roll mono over the entire length of the twist. Then you do your half hitches and whip when you are done. The thing that makes mono more difficult is that it is harder to start the roll over the twists and the mono has memory so too much pressure from above or below will make the mono look squirly and ugly. You are not going to get this right right away, you will need to practice for many hours and consistently over time. My advice is to not worry about making the mono squirly while you are practicing, focus on forming the knot correctly so it looks pretty, after you got that down then you can work on the amount of pressure you put on it from your knees and hands to make the leads into and out of the know look pretty (not squirly). After that you can teach yourself how to use your body and pilings to make really long ones if you so desire.
This advice will do nothing for you without tons of time practicing.

    Hope this helps
