I LIVE 225 YARDS UP A SLIGHT RISE IN ELEVATION FROM THE INTER COASTAL WATERWAY MHC NC.....I CAN JUST BARELY SEE THE WATERWAY TRAFFIC GO BY THROUGH A SMALL OPENING THOUGH THE PROPERTIES...2 MILES SOUTH IS THE BARRIER ISLAND (ATLANTIC BEACH- EMERALD ISLE) SO THERE IS SOME SURGE PROTECTION FROM THE SOUTH....

MY GPS SAYS I AM 40 FT ABOVE SEA LEVEL.....

WE HAVE A STANDING RULE HERE AT THE EL CRIBO .....IF IT'S CATEGORY 2....AND APPROACHING....WE LEAVE....WHERE TO I HAVEN'T A CLUE....BUT THE BOX CREW WILL BE LEAVING.....

NOW I THINK I NEED TO RECONSIDER MY EVACUATION PLAN AND MAKE IT MANDATORY CAT 1...GET THE HELL OUT


IS IT JUST ME OR DOES ANYONE ELSE THINK THAT THE 20,000 PLUS RESIDENTS OF COASTAL TEXAS THAT REFUSED TO EVACUATE ARE AND WERE JUST PLAIN STUPID? YEA YEA I KNOW A MAN'S HOME IS HIS CASTLE...BUT PEOPLE...PALEEESE.....SHOW SOME SENSE WILL YA?

TO THOSE THAT STAYED:

NOW WE GOT TO SPEND MILLIONS TRYING TO RESCUE YOU....NOW RESCUERS MUST RISK THERE LIVES ALL BECAUSE YOU ARE STUBBORN.....

IF YOU WERE HURT IN THIS STORM BECAUSE YOU REFUSED TO EVACUATE WHEN MANDATORY EVACUATION WAS ORDERED.., IF I WERE YOUR INSURANCE MEDICAL COMPANY , I WOULD REFUSE TO PAY YOUR MEDICAL BILLS FOR INJURIES FROM THE STORM OTHER THAN THOSE TO A PSYCHIATRIST.


YOU KNEW THE STORM WAS COMING FOR WEEKS...YOU HAD AMPLE OPPORTUNITY TO LEAVE AND WITH GOVT ASSISTANCE IF NEEDED.....SOME COUNTRIES DO NOT HAVE THIS GOLDEN OPPOTUNITY AND YOU GALVESTON ISLAND THREW YOURS TO THE WIND!

I THINK IT IS SAD AND RIDICULOUS THAT WE COMPLAINED AT OUR GOVERNMENT DURING KATRINA FOR FAILING SO MISERABLY...AND NOW THE TEXAS COASTAL VOTERS ARE THE ONES WHO LET THE GOVERNMENT DOWN.....

It makes no Friggin' sense to me either why anyone would choose to stay, unless they have aa death wish! I would certainly evacuate the area. Why take the chance?????

I think anyone who didn't evacuate has never been through one of these things.

Assuming you survive, it's really not a lot of fun to be stranded, surrounded by water, without power, no refrigeration, no running water and little or no communication ability. And worse, what if you're hurt?

Yea we got looted (no biggie) but what material object is worth your life?? And what if we'd been here when these thieves were roaming around our house in the dark with no power and no phone??

I suppose one might claim to be an adrenalin junky but they're not thinkin' about the aftermath. Yea, you got your thrill but look at where you are now.

I stay regardless, If it looks to be bad and depending on the angle of approach is what determines when and if the family to put to higher ground. This is for two reasons one is so that i can keep looter at bay, help those that aren't here with their boats,property ETC and with enough first responder training i am better suited to be here than fighting to come back to the area to do the same thing.

Texas was on a corner so they got the brunt of the storm surge at 12 hrs prior the waves were only 3-4 ft but already putting the seawall at wash that is your first indicati=or that it is time to roll from the immedate area. now look at the katrina issue they were already screwed @12 ft BELOW sea level. then ***** about response time...please feel free to attempt to fight your way through the carnage to get to the ground zero to set up a command center. Oh yah while were on that subject ......WHO THE HELL SHOOTS AT A RESCUER!!!!! this is where natural selection should take over and they should responded in kind!!!

Rescue them, then send them the bill, just like any other service. Guarantee the next time a mandatory evacuation is issued, people would leave, after paying for an hour of Pedro's time/or hearing about what it costs.

i think they should all leave and have home owners insurance.. as much as i love my home and stuff i would get the f out of dodge and run.. if the house gets taken down i got insurance..

if it is destroyed with no insurance coverage the government will help me anyway right..

seems to me that is the way it works.. katrina was a golden rule of that.. if it is broken the government will fix it.. seems kind of sad to me..

I SAW ON THE NEWS THIS MORNING SOME BUMB ASS STAYED AND KEPT HIS KIDS THERE WITH HIM. He said the water was rising, so the kids went and put on their life jackets and sat on the couch wondering what they were going to do. WTF!
