just can't figure it out...
Great website! I am a new member- here goes my first post: I've been fishing for bluefins out of morehead city since 1996 and have caught lots of fish off my dad's 32 albemarle and other boats. I bought a 27 contender w/ twin 225 yamahas a few years back and can't seem to get the strikes. I fished 8 straight days 2 years ago without a strike while other boats including many good friends with outboard boats, hooked up beside me. same thing last year- I fished 5 days without a strike when I had fish all around me and everyone else was catching fish. I am confident in my rigs, speed, bait, etc. I have a crew of experienced bluefin fishermen. I don't have a problem catching other kinds of fish. It is hard to describe the frustration- My friends thought my brain was going to catch fire and explode last year.....any suggestions?

It all cpmes down to "Dialing her in"... Every boat behaves differently. Has hot spots and cold spots. Even same boats vary. I run one albemarle and own another. Same hull designs but different as night and day where and how the fish raise. Vary the throttles and distances from the boat. In general outboards don't raise as well as inboards but there will be sweet spots someplace. You need to find them. That spread that worked on the albemarle wont work on yours. Gotta design a new one. Could be too close or riding on the wrong side of the wakes... Patience. Just keep trying different stuff. When something works jot down a note. Each time it happens, jot again and eventually you will come up with a spread...

WELCOME ABOARD HOTROD................DEEP C GIVES GREAT ADVICE AS ALWAYS!!!
I HOPE THAT I CAN HELP YOU SLEEP BETTER ON THIS "OBSTACLE " YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED CONCERNING BFT.......

http://www.wahoonbox.com/videos/tagger.wmv
I WAS INVOLVED WITH THE ORIGINAL BFT BITE HERE IN MHC.....TAGGED AND RELEASED AROUND 500 FISH THE FIRST 2 YEARS CHUNKING...160-300 LB CLASS
I CAUGHT ONE WITH "EMTAE" IN MY C/C IN '96 IN THE BEAFORT INLET THAT I KNOW NOW WAS NEAR 900PLUS......IT IS STILL THE SECOND LARGEST FISH I HAVE EVER HANDLED TO THIS DAY...IT BROKE THE 130 GUIDES OFF.....
LAST YEAR ....COMMERCIALLY....CAPT BRIAN AND I CAUGHT 6 GIANTS IN DECEMBER...WHILE MASS/RI CREWS CAUGHT 10-15.....SO WHAT DO I KNOW?.....ZERO....THEN BEGINNING FROM CHRISTMAS TO JAN 31ST....WE CAUGHT ONE FISH.....77" ...AND FISHED 33 DAYS DURING THIS PERIOD
I FISHED ONCE WITH "PITCHBAIT" A FEW YEARS BACK FOR 8 DAYS ON A BOAT FROM CAPE MAY FOR 8 STRAIGHT DAYS AND NOT A SNIFF DURING A TORRID BITE...ONLY TO FIND OUT THE RUDDERS WERE ABOUT TO FALL OUT OF THE BOAT...ONCE FIXED,... WE CRUSHED THEM ON THE SAME RIG...
I HAD A FISH BROKER CALL OUR BOAT WHILE FISHING THIS WINTER AND TOLD US HE WOULD GUARANTEE US 7K PLUS FOR TUNAS OF THE SAME QUALITY OF CARE WE ALWAYS CATCH....THATS AROUND 15K FOR 2 MEASLEY BFT.....AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE ABOVE VIDEO....THINGS DON'T ALWAYS WORK OUT AS PLANNED .....I ALSO FOUND THAT OUT IN PIRATES COVE THIS YEAR...AND IN CAPE MAY AS WELL....ONE WEEK YOUR THE HERO AND THE NEXT YOU AIN'T DIDDLY SQUAT
KEEP YOUR CHIN UP....PUT YOUR SPREAD OUT THERE THAT WORKS....IT IS SIMPLE YA KNOW.....THINK ABOUT IT....YOU MUST SWIM A BAIT BY A BIG OL FISHES NOSE IN THE MIDST OF ALL THAT BUNKER....AND CONVINCE HIM TO EAT THAT STUFF....
IF I CAN HELP YOU IN ANY WAY...LOOK ME UP IN MHC....WE ALL STRUGGLE DUDE....YOUR DAY WILL COME .....BE PATIENT
ROCK ON......NOW I'M SYCHED FOR DECEMBER TO GET HERE

thanks for the advice guys. Box- I hope I didn't get you psyched too early in the year- I always start thinking bluefin in Sept because we used to catch some in November. I think I'm going to rip the deck up and change out some pumps or something and just pound the water again this year. The planer videos Kick Ass. I owe you one for that trick-
