    Joining main line

I have a TLD25 with 30lb mono on it. After a birds nests, about an hour of unrepeatable language, a bait knife with a serrated back, contact with my finger, lots of blood, more unrepeatable language, the line is about 3/8" below the full mark on the spool.

I have about 200 yards left over from spooling it and was wondering if there would be any issue with joining the line? and if not what is the best connection to use?

Biminis with loop to loop? Albright? Uni to Uni?

i would respool if it was me......but if you are set on splicing, there's no stronger and more compact connection than a bimini or aussie braid to a no-name knot. Taught to me by surf casters on the outer banks, and if you're throwing 8-10 oz a hundred yards that puts a ton of strain on your connections and you need something compact to go through the guides. They tested this system with pickup trucks and the line always broke first. Slides through guides easily also.

one of the above mentioned loops to a no name knot. Or top shoot the difference with braid sounds like you could get 300 yds of 65 on it

    Honestly...

if you really don't care and you just want something to fish with. Thats the way you come off anyway. Its the perfect opportunity to learn a new and very useful connection. Say you have a fish that ran under the boat and is completely fubared in the rudder, what do you do? Say you have 3 bonita and one real fish all clusterfu#%ed up, whats the plan? In the first scenario you would gaff the line and take a couple wraps over cloth and the n cut the lines and tie an overhand knot and roll it into a blood knot, then clip the overhand ends off. Fot the second you unclusterf&%k it by getting the tips together and if it's unclusterf%#kably screwed you pick the real one out and repeat as before. It's all party boat but its a good connection in a pinch and has saved me countless real ones. I'll post a video tomorrow if anyones interested.

    Exactly what do you mean?

I simply asked if I could join it, I do not see what part of my post would in any why give the impression that I don't really care and just want something to fish with.

If you had a reel in that condition what would you do. If the correct thing to do is respool then respool it is. I asked the question because my first thought was respool but if we regually join braid to a mono topshot what is the difference with joining mono to mono. There is still an additional knot.

If I knew the best thing to do I would not be asking.

If it is new mono then how about a uni to uni and be done with it until you respool it next time. If it is older mono then just strip it and respool. I haven't had a uni fail me yet and I have done this type of connection using mono to mono. Whatever you end up going with, tie it carefully and correctly and you should be good to go.

but if you were worried about the line then you would either change it all out or switch it to braid. Theres no reason to splice monofilament unless you are on a party boat.

    heres a blood knot...

if you have a problem and want to splice lines together fast do this. If its got a fish on it grab the line and wrap yourself twice and then splice it and unwrap yourself. It's also a small decent connection for line to line.

that the braid to mono knot gets changed regularly so the line stays in tip top condition. Use a short top shot and change it every trip if not more. Hope that helps and I didn't mean to come off as a dick, sorry.
