Got fish
Jig mold / rig prototype
On another post I had explained my interest in building a jig that could be rigged for a stinger hook for some Cobia tourney guys and that also could be rigged for fishing with a circle hook with bait as the law now requires in the Gulf. Thanks for all the suggestions; I had the mold adapted for use with a split ring to minimize the chance of loosing a fish from leveraging and the split ring also gives the play needed for a circle to do it's job if so rigged.
I poured a few dozen heads and started experimenting with rigging. This rig was built for a fishing chick that just had to have her lure done in lavender. I mixed enough purple and white to run a few for her and more, so if anyone feels the need for any lavender painted leads; I am your guy.
The stinger hook rig is built to have the hooks seated independantly and is quite honestly nothing but a killing machine. Of course, these are used for sight casting to large Cobia and the stinger is nothing but insurance of a hook up. To keep the hooks from fouling during casting, I snelled the main hook to the stinger cable with spectra. (my shrink tubing had been "borrowed" but I like the way it turned out)
As an update on the circle hook jig, I got the chance to throw the jig rigged with a single Owner 8/0 5879 circle and went one for one on a perfectly hooked 31" that was released.
Here is a shot of the circle hook jig and a few of my Cobia chick jig rigged double.
Thanks for any suggestions or comments,

Got fish
Man, I screwed that photo attachment thing up. My apologies.
Anyway, on the double rig I am using 90# nylon coated Surflon; is there a better way to go? The circle hook rig is a very wide gap and I figure that adds to the effectiveness, but I would like to hear opinions from others.
Thanks

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
Barefootin,
I like the idea of experimenting and trying to build a better mouse trap and you have certainly made a neat and very clean looking rig. I would also like to see the circle hook rig pics and know the hook up %.
That being said, I know when I used a heavy jig head (as you have shown) it was more likely a fish would throw the hook when he gives one of those famous Cobia head shake. I would prefer a little lighter jig head (1/2 oz) than the one you have shown. With a lighter head I have never had any problems hooking or keeping a Cobia hooked. I personally like a single hook. I am not a fan of double hook rigs for three reasons, 1. The danger of someone getting hooked when a crazy Cobia hits the deck 2. If your line should break it's a for sure death sentence because the fishes mouth will be hooked shut and it will most likely starve to death 3. Makes for a hard and dangerous release on undersized fish.
Just a few things to think about.
Good luck
Capt Rick

Got fish
Capt Rick,
Thanks for the response. Here are a few snaps of the circle hook jig. I use a large #6 split ring that allows the hook to travel 180 foreward or back and also allows 180 to either side which should alleviate any leverage the fish could get during a head shake.
I just got the mold on Wed and have only had the one shot at a Cobia which was succesfull although a short. I did land 2 Red Snapper on the circle jig sweatened with a cigar minnow on the same oil platform; I lost a fish that that made a pretty good run with the bait but I figure it was a King as they had been marauding the bait rigs all afternoon . I do need a few field testers that can give me some better #s. I just don't get enough time on the water to do the science. I have given some jigs to 2 local charter captains and a tourney boat crew over the last few days as well as the fishing chick. The Cobia start dropping off in Sept. and the Red Snapper season ends Aug 15th so time is a factor.
Thanks,
