    Jacks and red drum

I had a charter today looking for amberjacks. After waiting about an hour for the rain to pass this morning, we struck out around 7 am. Well we found the jacks! All we wanted. Fishing to the SW out of Beaufort Inlet we found jacks on all the structure that we stopped on. There was a huge amount of bait everywhere we went. Very large cigar minnows were covering up all the rocks and wrecks. The water was very clear and calm. After we had our fill of amberjacks and a borken rod to boot, I decided to check around the beach for some red drum. First stop I made, I cast a circle hook rig with half a menhaden on it for bait and it never stopped when it hit the water. For the next 2 hours we had 3 fish on at all times. My boat looked like I had gutted a cow on it with all the blood from the menhaden. I rigged baits and cut chum and slung both all over the boat and my-self. The bite shut off just as fast as it had started. What a way to end up a beautiful day of fishing along the Crystal Coast.

Yes the drum were in the ocean. And thanks for the comment. OH wait a minute! You meant the boat.. I have removed the bracket and the powerpole. The boat rides better without the bracket. It sure helped in a following sea to keep the water out, but I could not get the bow down in a head sea.

Marty, hopefully I can keep the current pictures coming. I had 2 trips today, unfortunately the morning trip sucked for me, tide was all wrong, but the afternoon trip was a video shoot for Carolina Outdoor Journal, so I didn't take my camera. We got lucky and got on that same school of drum were on yesterday and for about an hour we caught all the 27 to 33 inch red drum we wanted, then they moved on. No pics today, but we got an outstanding drum show for next season.
