Women love me... fish fear me
Its been far too long
Its been far too long since I got to watch the sun set out in the canyons off of south Jersey....3 long years to be exact....that all changes tomorrow
We are shoving off at 3 pm from Oc NJ tomorrow afternoon.....not returning to port until 5 pm on saturday....planning an evening troll starting around the 40 line unless we pass the right kind of marks before hand and then spending the night chunking them up in either the lindy or carteret....back up and trolling and jigging all day......the bailers and gaffers better hide and the wahoo and tuna are in trouble because the boys are coming back to town and we are blood thirsty and hungry!
Report to follow on sunday....

Women love me... fish fear me
What a beautiful day it was out in the deep......I dont know if we zigged when we should have zagged but we had zero tuna bites. We talked to a few boats from the marina that were on their way in from the lindenkohl.....it was a lifeless desert out there so we decided to bang a right hand turn and pointed her to the tip of the baltimore. We set out the spread, naked ballys on the flat lines, daisey chains with hoos on the outside longs, 2 spreader bars and a bird with a chugger down the center.....the first piece of wood we cam across and we had a 4 banger of slinger mahi that we went a dismal 2 for 4 on.....first fish was a gaffer that tossed the cedar plug in mid air on a spectacular jump.....shook one off at the side of the boat and decked two of them....that was it for the evening troll.
We set up for the chunk just as it was getting dark, armed with butters, sardines and the funniest looking mackrel I have ever seen.....funny looking because they were bunker lol. There was not much current at all and after 3 hours of tossing chunks without a sniff and the lack of good current we pulled the hook and went on the drift. Within 1o minuted of getting on the drift we released a small mako...about 3' on a sardine....ok now were talking boys....5 minutes after that we released a pup sword.....its bill was as long as its body but it was a sword none the less. Moral was high and we worked all night long for a few more run offs .....had another sword hooked up that was bill wrapped.....the 200lb mono was chafed up pretty good 18" from the hook on another sardine. We saw no bait.....no squid, no tinker macs.....no bait. The drift over night took us down the west wall and out into the deep....an uneventful night to say the least.
Around 5:30 am the seas were building pretty good....it was getting snotty and we were on the east wall in 1600' of water, we wrapped up the chunking gear and got the spread ready for the twilight troll.....we covered some real estate yesterday with one gaffer dolphin and a wahoo cut off to show for it, trolled the west wall, the trunk, misty blue and the 28 mile wreck before we pulled them in and headed for home. Even though the fishing was not hot I had a great time...I got to fish with 3 guys that I have never fished with...2 of them I had never even met. The boat a 36' wellcraft was a dream to fish on.....Mark the owner of the boat runs it like a champ and was a very cool guy to fish with. I didnt get any fish pics since I was cleaning the boat while the fish got whacked up.....all in all it was a great 24 hours on the water and I cant wait to get back out there!
