Incredible Day on the Run-Off 6/13/2009
Well, today was one of those days that I will never forget as long as I live. The original plan was for my old man to come down to the beach so that I could take him out on my boat for his birthday/father's day and we could go pull for mahi's around 25 or 30 miles out. That plan was not to be, due to a problem I am having getting fuel to my motor so I gave Capt. Brian a call around 5:00pm Friday, knowing that earlier in the day they had an opening. After speaking with Brian it was game on. Left the docks at MHC around 5:00am and put the spread out about 7:00am and it was all the mahi one could want. We had singles, doubles, triples, and at one time had six gaffers on at once getting all six in the boat. About 10:00 the madness began when we got attacked by sails. Before we knew it, we had three different fish bite, getting one hooked up, which was eventually released by my buddy Josh for his first billfish. The other two fish never hooked up due to a mistake that I will never make again on the dropback. I promise you that!! Not much time passes after the sailfish release before Capt. Brian yells out Blue Marlin on the right teaser and Box goes to work putting me on my first Blue Marlin, an estimated 200lbs, which was caught and released on a 100lb leader. For the day we ended up with 23 mahi totallying 289 lbs and went 2 for 5 on billfish. My buddy Josh popped his billfish cherry and I got my blue cherry popped. Plus, the old man had a fantastic time on only his second trip offshore. Finally, I would like to take a minute to thank both Box and Capt. Brian for the trip. I have never seen a Capt. and mate as in-sync as these two were all day. Top of the line professionals is all I can say. Box even allowed my crew to get as involved as we felt comfortable, and as the result of great teaching and much passience, we all left feeling a little more knowledgable and confident in our abilities. Anyways, sorry for being so long winded as I think I am still shock from the Marlin. I once thought that graduating from college after spending 7 years trying to get my bachelors was the best I have ever felt in my life...Well at least until Saturday. Enjoy the pics and hopefully Box will post some great video footage when he gets some down time.

What a pretty blue one! Congratulations on a fantastic day. I imagine that it was another good day at the office (business as usual) for captain B. As far as the Box is concerned, another ruined Tshirt!
Thanks for the fine report and pictures.
