I seriously think that the state of North Carolina needs to rethink the laws concerning these F-ing mopeds.

Currently, you lose your drivers liscense for whatever reason and all you have to do is go and buy a moped. These damn things are one of the largest hazards on the roads today and NO LISCENSE IS NEEDED to operate one? They have motors don't they? Therefore they are a MOTOR VEHICLE and one should be required to have a liscense. So what if they don't do 55-60mph, why not unrestrict motorcycles too? They aren't cars or trucks.

Yesterday, on our way downtown, there were 2 wrecks involving these pieces of crap within a five mile stretch of road.

They are a hazard WORSE than JET-SKIS, and should be outlawed, or make them as fast as cars or trucks. OOPS, they already do, they are called motorcycles, and don't you need a liscense to operate one?

Man I hate those things!

I'm with you on this one TT...Those things are a real pain in the ass...it doesn't make any sense to me that you can run these without a licensee AND the driver doesn't have to wear a helmet (helmets required for motorcycles in MD)!

They are a terrible hazard!! I remember when they first brought them to Martha's Vineyard, Mass. They don't belong on the roads (not wide enough and too much traffic) and they don't belong on the bike paths. I had a wreck with two early on when I came flying around a bend on my bicycle and there they were just parked in the middle of the trail. There was no where for me to go but straight into them!!!

Later on when my (now ex) husband had to have a lure extracted from his head (another story) in the ER, I learned from the nurses that they had a minimum of FIVE moped injuries per day during high season. (And this was about 20 years ago!!). Most of them were head injuries!! Though I don't think anyone who would rent a moped is starting with a whole lot up there anyway.

It pisses me off too. Some drunk lost their license and now I have to sit behind him waiting for a passing zone when he doesn't even have a license plate??? It ain't right.

moped = liquorcycle. By the way some of those scooters will fly (55mph+). I think 50 cc engine is the limit for no drivers license in NC. I agree that there are a lot of roads that these do not belong on(speed limit over max speed of liquorcycle).
