Mike,
You just took the job like two days ago. Give the guy a break. He obviously made you an offer you liked, right ?
Well don't start trying to make deals before you even get your first charter...Times are tough, be glad you are working
Now on the other hand if you are independently wealthy and you don't give a hoot.
Good luck and I hope it works out for you.
Capt.- tell me to buzz off but the best advise I could give you as one who has employees would be not to seek advice from "the world.". Seek it from your boss.(Privately) Let him know his interests and yours must be mutually beneficial to make a long term relationship successful. The person who hires you has made a committment to you and such a committment deserves mutual and private respect. Promoting your fishing abilities and the equipment you have been hired to run will return many more benefits than exposing your personal needs. By all means promote yourself and your abilities to as wide an audience as will listen. Speak privately to you boss about your compensation.
Good luck and I love my Pathfinder too
I wish I could afford a boat big enough to charter.
But,
I have had businesses.
If I hire somebody to do a job they bring whatever they
have to the table for the negotiated salary..
In the case of a charter captain, it would be knowledge,
experience and a following.
That would be what I'm paying for.
I would not expect a captain to expect more for "his"
bookings. Thats why I hired you.
If you feel your bookings are worth more I would suggest re-
negotiating salary.
Please dont get angry.
Just my opinion.
Remember who is paying the overhead besides I'm guessing your salary, when I have worked as a skipper for hire I have always brought in a few of my client's as well if the fishing is good and with out asking for extra's I was always rewarded with way over 10% without asking for it!!!PEACE
