THose bad bitches work up here in the Great White North, eh! Marty and one of yer boys turned me onto those 3 years ago when a few of us Ynaks came to AB/MHC. Our peeps thought we wuz touched to fish them here, so we never did tell anyone that we caught fish on 'em rigged Carolina style-big ones too. Doubters are silly. Best regards,

Now, I could use some advise on rigging these beauties.

Leader type/weight, hook type/size, anything else to have them ready to pull some big 'hoos...

    THANKS!
    Brian
Warm weather - and water - is coming soon.

Could still use some info on rigging.

    THANKS!

    Hello Brian,
since the pros are not yet talking, I'll give you my very limited and amateur experience consisting of having fished with a couple of good Carolina crews who like to use these.

Typically, Illander pros are rigged with horse balyhoo (single hook) or spanish mackerel (double hook), no chin weights, and run off the short riggers. Wahoos will certainly eat them, however, when targeting wahoos you are likely better off with heavier straight tracking lures (with meat) run either just below the surface, or down through the use of trolling weights and/or planers.

Hoping I can shame some of the pros to chime in here!

    Hey 'Biscuit,

Appreciate the response, understanding, support and info.

Marty's initial post had noted the flats and short rigger positions, and your perspective helps.

Just spent a good bit on these and want to make best use of them. And not lose any unnecessarily...

Brian glad you brought this back to the top, after 2 days of hard core rigging school it has now dawned on me I didn't see a Pro rigged in class either. I did get the advise needed but I am thinking that rigging an Ilander Pro has the potential for a grand new video production
What do you say Box, burn some tape and clip in some music and Rock our World?

    RIGGING FOR BLUE MARLIN

NO VIDEO YET ....I SWEAR I THOUGHT I MADE ONE A WHILE BACK! I HAVE LOOKED AND LOOKED AND CAN'T FIND IT

LEADER RANGE: 400 MIN - 540 LB FLUORO NOT NECESSARY

    CRIMP..................2.2mm - 2.3 mm

HORSE BALLYHOO....MACKERAL....EVEN A LARGE MULLET WILL WORK

    HORSE: 11/0 7731 MUSTAD

WHEN TARGETING BLUE MARLIN...I USE 11/0 IN ALL HORSE

WITH THIS LURE HEAD....I DO TRIM A SECTION OF THE HORSES BILL OFF BEFORE I WIRE IT DOWN WITH MONEL TO THE LEADER

THIS RIG WILL CATCH ATTRACT AND SOMETIMES CATCH EVERY MAHI WITHIN 20 MILES UNFORTUNATELY AND BFT AND BIGEYE WILL DEVOUR IT

Oh so true. If I may add a tid bit so that this awesome fish raiser is used by weekend warriors more than once a season-----
Brian, when the White Boys show up in the Norfolk Canyon, do not hesitate to use your Pro as a teaser w/ a hookless horse. I have had the white Ones ingnore the dredges, Ilander chain, and/or squid chain just to wallo all over the Pro. Not just as an incidental surprise, but on a regular basis. Something about that pop that drives the White Boys nuts on some days. I will note, it is a ***** to get him off the Pro and switch over to your pitch bait, but hey, that''s your problem
