    Ilander Lure Skirt Fix

on some of my ilanders, the hair seems to be clumped together on opposite ends of the lure. after sitting on their sides, the hair isnt evenly distributed. does anyone know a way to fix this and just as important, does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? it happens almost every year. i tried soaking them in conditioner and that didnt seem to help. any advise is welcome (including telling me im an idiot for letting this happen). thanks

What you have to is soak them in hot water for awhile then i have bought some of Ilander's spray conditioner that comes with a comb that should take care of the problem.

Soak em in hot water with a little conditioner. Shake em dry, comb the knots out if any and HANG them on a piece of heavy mono. If you use a stiff piece of mono and get them to hang upright, the hair will fan out nicely after hanging a while. John McGinty did a great video of how to reskirt them too. Here is the link...RE-TYING ILANDERS. Hope this helps.

Then dry them with a hair dryer.

hang them until they are completely dry.. but with all islanders when not in use they get hung upside down like said above so the hair kinda fans out and you can put one on top of the other..

i use 200lb mono and crimp the end and slide them down.. i can put 20 of the small trackers on a piece of mono!!

    Lure tube

Save the lure tubes they come in. After you wash them with conditioner and let them dry upside down, place them back in the lure tubes. I will also drill a hole large enough in the end where the lure head rest that I can pre-rig them. I pull the leader through the hole and out of the tube and coil it up. Also, cut a slit in the side of the tube with a pair of scissors at the other end far enough up that it will allow you to pull the hook into the slot and put the end back on the end of the tube.

On another note, some lures that are meant to mimic Island Lures, have poor quality hair. The hair tangles terrible and doesn't hold up well at all. I reccommed retying like shown in the link above.
