Okie let me instigate something here ...

deep down, many favor red/black and black/purple lures for wahoos. SC lures are usually dark, as is just about any wahoo surface lure.

now, the point of the black planner is to be less seen? Just curious, not attacking you or anything, trying to learn

Wouldn't a black planner be more victim of cut-offs then a normal silver one?



the swivel on the black trolling weight looks small compared to the size of it lol

I hope those hogrings are just for the powder coat process. No way I would trust one under pressure, especially with a fish on. Great looking planer.

Baba- fair questions…
As to advantages vs. disadvantages re black planers..
I’ll defer to those with far greater time on / in the ocean.
I’ve far to little experience to comment.
I’d heard of painting the planers and tried powder coat
w/ good results.
That is the swivel that came on the weight.

Hold- I’m going to test the breaking strength on the hog rings.
Big scale….golf cart…tow hitch…..fixed anchor point
and get a “poundage”....like line “test”….
And the planer would be used in a “bridle” set up
so you not be risking a lost fish..
It’s a work in progress.

Black makes a difference for sure.

When I first started usinf planners on the downrigger the first 2 seasons I lost at least 4 planners I can remember. Since painting I still buy a back up every once in awhile. There is now a collection of sizes under my seat and can't remember the last time I lost one. I think it was 1 last year.
