I NEED HELP SELECTING A NEW VACUUM PACKER

I have been catching a pile of silver mullet lately and I am looking for good vacuum packing machine, something like the commercial bait company's use. Something that I can can buy bulk heavy bags for and something that will seal and vacuum really good. I don't want to sell the house to get one but the Foodsaver just ain't gittin r done.

My wife bought some ribs yesterday and they where vacuumed packed in a marinade sauce in a bag that felt like is was made out of rubber (maybe 8-10mils) and they where tight tight tight, so I know there is some really good equipment out there.

    Any suggestions ?

    Thanks.

If you are looking for a commercial grade machine that doesn't require the embossed bags, look here - http://www.butcher-packer.com/index....ex&cPath=35_37

    clt capt.

Thanks for the link, I am kinda leaning towards a chamber style sealer like shown. Prices vary from $500.00 to as much as $5000.00

When you say embossed bags, do you mean bags that can be printed on ? Like company logos ?

    Thanks,

    Thanks Marty,

I use a Foodsaver now. It's not as good as the one you have but I have for sure got my moneys worth. I see these sealers with chambers and they look pretty good but the prices are all over the board and would really like hear from someone who has actually used one. I guess it's like anything else you get what you pay for, I just don't need ALL the bells and whistles.

By embossed I mean the special bags you need for the external clamp style (Foodsavr) vacuum sealers. With the chamber sealers, you can use heavy gauge plain bags - like the ones your ribs came in.

I have used the commercial grade vacuum chamber style - when I was working in a rib joint. For home use, I have a Foodsavr pro - It works well if you stick to patting down the meat before you insert the bag (as Marty said)

You can get other bags that work as well (or better) than the FoodSavr brand - they are a lot cheaper if you buy them by the case...

I talked to my dad, he's a retired maintance mechanic, vaccum pac machines were one of his specialities. He has the vac master15, bought on ebay for around $1400. He said that the rotary pump is by far better than the piston pump design, its in a oil bath.
The 15 series has a single seal about 3/16" (approx) wide and the 20 series has 2 - 1/8" wide seals. He thought that would help make an even better seal. He does really like the one he has.

I've spent some money on vaccum sealers and what I've just found from my boss was cheap and really effective. I'm not sure of the name but they have it at walmart for cheap and i've never seen it fail. I'll get back to you for the name.
