Thumbs up I have to share this!!! (How to throw a cast net video)

One of the most frustrating things in the history of my fishing life has been throwing a cast net. I guess I was never properly shown how to do it and every time I tried I would end up so pissed at myself because of what a mess it would end up in. That is not a fun way to start a fishing day.

Well ... I shared my lack of confidence in throwing a net in another thread and Triangler sent me a PM with this link to a video on how to throw a cast net .... The dry-load method by Calusa nets.

Well ... it was WAY different than the way I have been trying to do it so I decided to skip the gym today and devote an hour trying it out in anticipation of my fishing coming up this next week.

Well after three or four "practice throws" I WAS THROWING BIG ROUND PANCAKES EVERY TIME!!!!!

I cant tell you how excited I am to put it on top of some pogies and I am way too excited not to share with any of my brethren here who might share my frustration.

Here is the link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOUkj2h2LjI

    Thanks Triangler!!!!!!

Yep, very much like the video that Capt. John has on the sight here.

One thing I do recommend is not learning the led line in the mouth method. Some of the places that I catch bait in I would not want that mud in my mouth or the slim from the fish...

Another thing to point out: keep the wind at your back, if your boat is trailered in your yard or driveway, paint or put some target dots at different places and different distances away from the boat. Then get up on your boat and throw from the exact some places you would in the water. With some practice you will be able to center the net on each dot when throwing. It is a world of difference throwing in the yard from flat ground than it is off a boat.

The portion that goes over your shoulder: the more you put over your shoulder especially with a 10'0 net or bigger the longer it will take for that portion of the net to come off your shoulder. Therefore the net willl open wider alot easier because of 3 different portions of the net separating at the different speeds as you throw. (this works really well when trying to "float" the net when there is bait popping close to the boat)

Oh yeah another thing, make sure to remove rings, watches, sunglasses etc before throwing the net. I have had a watch and and pair of sunglasses ripped off. Luckily I got them tangled in the net and I was able to recover them when getting bait out.

Thanks for the advice guys! The over-the-shoulder method seems to work just as well Lee.

keep your deck clear of snags. Throwing the net from a Jon boat, I had the net catch a fire extinguisher and there was a pretty good plop with it hit the water. Oh yeah, they don't float. Forget what the new one cost. It's a pretty good feeling to pancake a 12' net on pile of pogies, if you like catching bait like I do.
