It doesn't matter what depth, it will stand out.

The number one squid pulled behind spreader bars by the OI charter fleet is the white squid. No matter what color the bar is. Their hooked bait is a white squid.

The hottest seawitch out of OC last year from what I observed was the white widow or white witch. Can't remeber the name but it was basically a white latern. White hair and a tiny white octopus skirt. I also walked the OI fishing center one morning prior to going out and expected to see 6 poles behind every boat carrying b/w seawitches. While I did see my share of B/W's I also noticed quite of few boats with those white widows.

Tuna in general BFT in particular see light at the 430 nanometer wavelength Knowing this you would want to have a bait that has color at this wavelength
Now take mammals with similar rod to cone eyes (The big brown rabbits with white tails and funny horns comes to mind) In the dark when us humans cannot see they see very well if alarmed they raise there flag so all can see
    What color is that flag

Bottom Dweller would be the one you are looking for Box. I remember you all had the discussion a while back.

ROY G BIV is also the order of colors/wavelengths in a white light visible spectrum (think rainbow or glass prism) from longest red to shortest violet.

If red turns to black in deep/low light - wouldn't blood AND red hooks be appear black?

I have always wondered just how wide the variation is from person to person when perceiving color. You say light red, she says pink, it says fucshia...

Great thread Marty. I think Bottomdweller was the poster you're thinking about.
