The box jelly I saw at MHCYB was a lot bigger than Iricanji - but it was definitely similar. There was a report a few weeks back that someone's daughter got stung in Wrightsville.

That looks like the stings I got while I was spearfishing in the Azores. I was there for two months and got stung several times. Nothing special about the jellies. They had short thick tenticles about the same size as her scar. Hurt like hell and you got blisters and a scar for a few weeks. We used tomatoes slices for the pain. I heard the acid helps with the sting either that or just the coolness helped.

It is possible that it's a box jellyfish sting. And you can get tagged by a free floating tentacle.
Another "jellyfish" I've delt with down in Key West is called the Iricangi. Not sure how warm of water they need. Only been involved with them down in KW. They have AWFUL stings that really do last A LONG time! Plus they are TINY. Hard to see.
I was trying to find some info on them online but I just wasn't having anything pop up. Hopefully we have a marine biologist on here that can help out.
    Hope that info helps!

Let her know I said I hope she feels better soon!

    Tim
