they look just like fish to me.
They look like Oscars to me - Very common in freshwater aquaria...
I'm no expert on tropical freshwater fish but the mouths and body shapes look very similar to Piranna. I do know that several species are silverish gray with no red under the gills 9like we so often see on TV).
Just a guess (at best)
Body shape does not seem to be deep enough for an oscar. Not even sure if it is a cichlid. I'll see what I can find. Possibly a Jack Dempsey or a Managuense if it is a cichlid.
They are definitely not Oscars. We caught these guys in 50 fathoms inside of the Lindenkohl Canyon off the coast of NJ in 68 degree water. Had about 100 of them swimming in our underwater lights and caught a dozen on small hooks with squid. Kinda look like a freshwater pirana/pacu or a croaker but nobody has been able to figure out what they are. They're living great in the tank...
They look like a member of the barrelfish family.
Some type of pilot fish perhaps.
