Hyde County 10/03
Left On the 3rd about 4pm headed to Hyde county on my annual fall trip. Got there around 8 and was greeted by a few five gallon buckets full of fresh cob mullet and a boat full of fuel. Cooler stocked we slid in at the local ramp and headed out into the darkness. It only took ten minutes and we were sliding the hook in the water and casting the first baits. I had not finished the first very cold beverage when it was on. Smallest fish was right on 40" with the biggest right at 56". We caught and caught and caught until the cooler was empty of bottles and the rotten tater juice was gone as well. We had doubles and triples but only missed 2 fish all night, one miss was suspected to be a big ol poon.
Spent the rest of the weekend tearing the grey trout up playing with the puppy drum and picking thru the little buck flounder. All in all a great trip.

Pretty Hyde county drums Jon! Sounds like you had a fine time with fish and friends.
Captain Harrington's log for this year's river drum fishing indicates that nearly one in three (almost 400 out of 1200 + fish he caught) were tagged fish. Outstanding as this particular Old fish season has been this kind of data would suggest that the fishery may not be as robust as the catches might indicate.
Interested in opinions on this matter.

Tagging
Ive got a tagging kit and left my whole tackle bag in the truck. The guy I fished with there said he has been catching them none stop since late May this season. He mentioned that he could have probablly tagged over a thousand of these fish this season. Also every single fish was caught on a circle hook dead in the corner of the mouth. It was a great naight of fishing if only we had boated a tarpon it would have truly been epic. Also not one of these fish had a tag.

7 trips yielded 78 fish for me this season. One was tagged. Have still not got the info back as this fish was not in the logs for them for the past two years. Wanchese indicated it was tagged 3 years ago or possbily longer. I know some others that caught a tagged fish in the same vicinty that I caught mine 6 days before.
One day this year Beckwith was given tag info from a fish that was tagged the day before 7 miles away.
George is also putting tracking tags on some of the fish. He told us that he has to almost get on plane to keep up with them. Also, the fish seem to sleep and not move at all from one spot for up to 4 hours. Then when piece of bait enters the water in their vicinity they go active.
Neat stuff
