I saw some great boats

Hurricane Ike went through big boat country ( Galveston, Kemah, Port Oconnor) and the guys who were able moved their boats down here to Port Isabel. For about three days we had boats down here like at the Miami boat show. While very humbling, it's good to know that money is still being made and can be spent in such a fine fashion. Had occasion to meet some fine guys as well so the storm did have a few positive things associated with it.

Yes its a mess, and I am not surprised by the damage on the beach and sound front, but it is not near as bad as I was expecting to see in the pictures. Picture # 6 I think it was, looks to be a picture of new construction with only the pilings showing, notice how the piles are not notched for the main girders...
I am sorry thay have to go through this and I pray for a speedy recovery...

I was actually surprised to see so many pilings still standing. But then I really don't know all that much about that kind of construction. They did better than the telephone poles.

With house construction, on the beach, your piling should be 1 to 2x deeper in the ground than the height to the bottom of first floor. Each area is different but as a rule of thumb...
