    Hudson Canyon 6/25-6/26 late report

We ran to the Hudson canyon Fri afternoon. Got a late start so we didn’t get to the tip until 8:30pm. We trolled until about 9:30 working our way to the 100sq without a touch.

We set up in the deep hoping for a sword bite to happen but that didn’t really pan out to well as there wasn’t any breeze or current and we stayed still all night. I figured with the full moon and all, the current would be kicking, NOT!!!! We did hear of one sword around 100 lbs caught.

Back up on the troll at 4:15am looking for some eyeballs. Pounded the 100 sq with a bunch of other boats. There were some eyeballs caught all around us but it just wasn’t in the cards for us.

At around 11am the deep rod got slammed by a Blue Marlin that we estimate to have been 300-400 pounds. She took off like a bat out of hell across the wake of the boat greyhounding like she was possessed. Then she must have decided that she wanted to look and see what was in my exhaust pipes and came flying to the back of the boat. She turned to starboard just before she hit the transom and that was the last we saw of her. I guess with the belly in the line she was able to unbutton herself.

We got to dance with her for about 45 seconds and that was it. This time we had the right size gear and she actually took the only 80 in the spread. She hit a green machine running behind a bird

We worked the area for another hour or two and decided that we needed some meat in the box so we ran over to some tile fish numbers that I have and caught 8-10 small golden tiles in 475 feet of water.

On our way in I had an alarm go off in the exact same location (mako hotel) that we had the problem with the raw water hose on our last offshore trip. It turns out that the same hose that blew our previous trip was the culprit again. This time it wasn’t the hose that broke but the hose clamp, it was one of those heavy duty ones too. I must have some bad mojo going on over there. I may have to take a detour next time to avoid the area.

Below is the splash from the blue lady…. That was all we could get. One of these days I will get a blue one to the side of the boat for some photos.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Cant get out there this weekend but we are planning on going out on the 11th as a sort of pratice round for the Beach Haven Tourney. Got to see how well we can make those circle hooks run.
