HOW2 MAKE $$ ON SFC & CHARTERING
CHAPTER ONE
WELL WELL WELL....... LOOK WHO ALL JUST SHOWED UP TO CHECK THI$ ONE OUT. NICE TO SEE SOME FAMILIAR FACES...I MEAN NAMES READING THIS LORE. HOW TO MAKE MONEY ON SPORTFISHERMEN.COM? BUY BANNERS? DISPLAY PRETTY SIGNATURES? BUY A YELLOW PAGE AD? BUILD A WILD AVATAR? ....W-E-L-L .....NOT EXACTLY.........SURE , THESE HELP, BUT WHAT REALLY PULLS THE TRIGGER FOR THE READER? HOW CAN ONE MAKE HIS AD DOLLAR WORK ON SFC? I'LL TELL YA.....PLAIN & SIMPLE............YOU GOTTA WORK FOR IT. TRUST ME, NEW MONEY WILL NOT ENTER YOU BANK ACCOUNT ON IT'S OWN. IF YOU THINK THAT CHARTER CLIENTS WILL COME CALLING JUST BECAUSE YOU PURCHASED A YELLOW PAGE AD YOU ARE WRONG. THE YELLOW PAGES ARE MERELY A QUICK REFERENCE POINT FOR ONE TO MAKE CONTACT.....IF YOU THINK BUYING A BANNER ON A PRODUCT WILL WORK YOU ARE WRONG......TRY BUYING A BANNER PLUS BECOME AN ACTIVE POSTER ON SFC AND THEN SEE FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLL$ I PROMISE YOU THIS WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.BECOME ACTIVE ON SFC.... THAT MEANS ONE MUST TAKE THE TIME AND AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK, BRING THE WORLD A STORY...AN ADVENTURE...PERHAPS A TIP ON FISHING OR A STYLE OF LIFE....YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A GREAT NOVELIST....HELL NO....I HAVE LESS THAN A HARVARD'S DOCTERATE EDUCATION MYSELF AND MOST ON HERE ARE ON MY LEVEL.....NO ONE CARES IF YOU CAN'T SPEEL....NO ONE CARES ABOUT GRAMMAR....I HAVE PROVEN THAT. BUT PUT YOUR BIZNESS ON THE FRONT PAGE IN A FORUM AND BECOME A VOICE ON INTERNET POWERHOUSE SFC....BREAK OUT OF YOUR LURKSHELL AND MAKE YOURSELF HEARD....BECOME ONE OF THE GANG HERE....TIMES ARE TOUGH IN THIS INDUSTRY AND ONE NEEDS TO GET TOUGHER HERE.....I THINK OF ALL THE MAJOR NAME VENDORS WHO ARE MEMBERS ON SFC AND THEY HAVE BUT NANNA TO SAY ....THEY MAINTAIN A ZERO POST COUNT AND ONLY LURK......WELL MR. LURKER....WE DON'T BITE SO JOIN IN WITH US.IF YOU ARE A VENDOR....BECOME A POSTER HERE....YOUR SIGNATURE IS YOUR CALLING CARD SO BE PRO-ACTIVE WITH THE COMMUNITY THAT YOU SEEK THE CONTACT WITH. POSTING A MERE THANKS OR A SIMPLE GREAT JOB GOES A LONG WAY......I SADLY SEE SOME THREADS STARTED ON SFC AND THEY RECEIVE NO REPLIES.....ZERO.....NANNA.......NOW THIS CAN COME FROM VARIOUS REASONS AND I WILL COVER THAT IN ANOTHER CHAPTER....BUT BY RESPONDING TO MISTER ZERO, THIS GIVES A VENDOR A CHANCE TO PUT HIS SIGNATURE BACK AT THE TOP NOT TO MENTION YOU MADE A ZERO FEEL LIKE A HERO.... ![]() THE BEST EXAMPLE OF WHAT I AM SAYING HERE IS SQUIDNATION....(AND ANOTHER IS THUMBDINGER DOT COM)...I HAVE WATCHED 'NATION FROM DAY ONE ....HE IS PRO-ACTIVE....REPLIES TO MANY THREADS....EXHIBITS MANY VIVID ACTION PICTURES....AND MARKETS HIMSELF WELL......HE IS KNOWN FROM MAINE TO BRAZIL....ECQUADOR TO CALIFORNIA.......HE ALSO PICASSO'D MEMBER VINNIE MYERS TO CREATE THE BEST LOOKING FISHING TEE SHIRTS ON THE SCENE TODAY .......FACTOID : SQUID'S TEES PUT TO SHAME 95% OF TOURNAMENT TEES ON THE SHELVES TODAY....THEY ARE BRILLIANT AND FULL OF LIFE....I TAKE MY VISOR OFF TO VINNIE!......BILL WAS ALSO THE FIRST "SMALL VENDOR" TO TAKE THE PLUNGE INTO BANNERISM ON SFC.....I AM NOT TALKING MOM AND POP BANNERISM HERE...THIS IS NO MOM N POP WEBSITE...SFC IS FAR MORE POWERFUL THAN MOST SPORTS MAGAZINES TODAY....I AM SPEAKING OF WORLD CLASS ADVERTISING WITH MORE VIEWS THAN MARLIN MAGAZINE HAS SUBSCRIBERS PER MONTH........FOR THIS GIANT LEAP BY 'NATION, I TIP MY RIGGERS. HE MADE IT WORK....NO SITTING AROUND HOPING TO SELL A SQUID...HE MADE IT WORK! THE POINT I AM HOPEFULLY MAKING HERE: THERE IS MONEY TO BE MADE HERE....THERE IS A NETWORK ON SFC UN-EQUALLED ON ANY OTHER SITE.....I BET IT IS SAFE TO SAY $10,000,000 HAS EXCHANGED HANDS BETWEEN MEMBERS ON THIS SITE SINCE BORN ON DATE.....YES REALLY. ONE MUST CREATE A WORKING NETWORK...IT WILL NOT CREATE ITSELF......JUST AS ONE SHOULD HAVE A NETWORK OF FELLOW ANGLERS TO SHARE OFFSHORE INFO WITH ON THE VHF.......LIKEWISE ONE SHOULD CREATE IT HERE ON SFC...... NO BIZNESS OR PRODUCT IS IMMUNE TO THIS BABBLE OF MINE.....NETWORKING PEOPLE NETWORKING....NETWORKING WITH THE MEMBERS WORKS. COMING SOON....CHAPTER 2 ~ BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL CHARTER CREW PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD MORE THOUGHTS TO THIS. ROCK ON....... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Last edited by WAHOONBOX; 09-07-2008 at 09:00 PM. |

I'm not a vendor or a charter Captain just a rod man who loves to fish but I will tell you that is some great advice. People dont hold enough value in the good old networking that can be done here on the site which in turn can grow some green Charter captains remember to post up a lot of pictures and videos it makes a huge difference for a charter guy like me. Images speak louder than words Glenn |

Damn good post Box,I have bought several items off this site, because the vendors made and effort to show me there products and answer any questions that I asked about them.To me that's customer service
I will continue to support these people and this site,Cause it just doesn't get no better than this.

Great thread..
Great thread you have started here Box. I am a charter captain, but I came to this site because of the info passed around by a bunch of like minded people. I think the internet can be an unbelievable source of info if you are in the right place. Sportfishermen.com is the right place! I appreaciate all the people who take the time to post info about rigging and fishing reports and hunting. I think the info makes me better at my craft. Thanks again Box for the fun stuff and insight to your world.

making money
Well said Marty. Enjoyed reading that one and it got me thinking about doing exactly what you said. As you all know I have been fishing all my life and have enjoyed every minute I have spent chasing the elusive bills all over the world. I recently took over Tournament Yacht Sales from my ex-boss who supposedly got out of fishing full time, but continues to own part of the boat and fish, anyway that's another post. It was a tough decision, but one that was taken with my wife and kids in mind. As it turns out so far it has been a good one.I now am the proud owner of my own business Tournament Yacht Sales, and selling boats full time. I am spending alot more time with my family and still get to fish and run boats for the tournaments when ever I want. I have spent most of this year trying to adjust to the new lifestyle and selling quite a few boats this year to get ahead in this slow economy. My point is I haven't had time to really think about promoting myself or my business other than the typical print ads. I think this is a great platform to do so and I will support this site every chance I get. Hopefully you will soon see my banners on this site and see my post in alot of forums. Thanks to all of you who have supported me so far and THANKS for the wake up call Marty. Good to see you at the MA500. Let's talk soon.

you should know..
that i agree with every word you just said......it took a while for me to really jump in and get going but once i did i noticed a complete turn around. I consider the marine industry one of the best but hardest industries to break in to....It's the "Good Ole' Boys" club and i got to say.....im startin to feel like im one of the boys....ive met more people and made more connections from this site than in my last 3 years of my life, fishing everyday.
Everytime i get a referral from somebody on this site, or i get a member it feels like im talking to a friend, there is already a relationship established...The internet has takin over TV/Radio advertising in my opion and the generations and means of communication are changing. These threads are not only informational they are fun. We give advice, consulation, congratulations......it is a TRUE.."MARINE COMMUNITY". Thanks for the read Box, wise words. |

TRUE TRUE TRUE - thanks for using me as your case study Marty. It is truly amazing how many people read this site and from ALL demographics. This site not only targets the saltwater fisherman but it is really know as the online source for offshore fishing worldwide. Weather it is sitting at the Bar at Enrico's dock in Isla or rigging baits behind my boat at Sunset Marina in OC, I have had people come up to me and say they saw me on Sf.com. Advertising on this site is very effective but like Marty said - the real deal is to participate in a productive manner.
