You don't always have to have weights on your baits. If it is flat calm a proper split bill will look beautiful on the flat line at 3 1/2 knots. Pay close attention to the sea condition and the way your baits are swimming and slow down or add weight to make them paddle. Think about how many bites you get in the turn or dumping a bait.
