Thanks for all the feed back. Things to remember, take the pain meds, take some more pain meds before the stuff gets yanked out, take more pain meds. Get as many milk shakes and smoothies out of the deal as possible. Heal as quick as possible, get on with life, plan next fishing trip.

One other thing to keep in mind, next time your in MHC let DocBox take care of all your medical needs with a deer antler, several shots of booze, and send in Nurse GOODBODY please, you know the one with the large chest pillows from the other thread LOL.

I'll let ya know how it goes.

Eat healthy foods including lots of berries and whole grains for a week or two prior to the procedure. There is a VERY interesting study about to come out about the benefits of a macrobiotic diet and its relationship to post operative recovery especially in terms of post operative infection.

DO NOT forgo the prescribed pain medication and DO NOT supplement it with alcohol or marijuana. Listen to your MD and if you are unclear or unsure of something, call him or her.

It's not that bad a procedure and you will probably be very glad you had it done once you heal. Good Luck.

    OUCH! THAT HURT

I'm back among the living. Heads clear, stopped taking the pain meds Saturday night, took a day for the fog to lift.

Surgery was Thursday morning, packing came out Friday afternoon, plastic splints come out on the 17th.

The worst part for me has been the wicked SORE THROAT. Doc said it came from the tube they rammed down my throat plus all the drainage. WOW, what an experience not one I want to have again anytime soon.

Yes he did. Next "he" wants to run something up the other end, just to take a look around. Glad I got a fishing trip out of this 50th birthday thing. I'll be glad when this is finished and behind me, so to speak.

Good news / not so good news. The plastic splints came out yesterday afternoon, Doc said it all looks very good up in there, i'm already breathing better than ever. The not so good news, I still cannot talk. Doc said he wasn't in the O.R. when they intubated me but they apparently used a bigger tube than necessary or didn't take much care while inserting it. My voice box is jacked up, red and raw with something forming on it from the trauma, WTF over . So he tells me we can't risk infection = more antibiotics, and to try to reduce the size of this thing, I have to take a round of steroids which have two side effects, weigh gain and insomnia. What a bunch of crap, most likely due to someone not taking a few extra minutes to be sure to do EVERYTHING correctly.

On the positive side, I can breath really good rigth now and that will improve as the congestion clears and the wife hasn't had to listen to anything I say because I can't talk.

Glad to hear the surgery went well, not so glad to hear about the intubation. Hopefully that is just a short term thing from scrapping the tube on your cords.

On a side note I ran as a paramedic for a little over 10 years for something fun to do on the side. Once a year we had to go to the OR and get 5 intubations with the anastealigist (sp) watching. We where like this is easy, plenty of light I can move the table to the height I want ect. Much better than a ditch, between a bed and a wall or on a bathroom floor.

Hope you recover fully very soon.
