how to get the fish smell of your hands!

here is my last tip for the week.
ever notice how your hands still smell like fish after you clean fish and wash your hands with soap. easy solution, after washing your hands, squirt some toothpaste, not the gel kind on your hands, rub it all around on your hands top and bottom, use it as if it was soap. let sit for a minute and then rinse it off. fish odor is now gone. tadaaaaaaa.......!

This stuff is the heat. It will even get gizzard shad stink off your hands. It used to come in liquid, but now just wipes. still works great.

There are multiple products that will eliminate odors. Many of these sell in pet stores to eliminate pet odors. Most contain an "enzyme" that breaks down the odor. Similar porducts are marketed for the bilge, septic tank, etc. you can find these in stpres such as West Marine and others. Really great products but can be $$. I have a gallon of concentrate that I dilute and use it for everything from carpet cleaning to detergent. It dissolves blood and organic matter, used in hospitals on surgical instruments.

remember to be carefull what you put on your hands. Most of the fish we case after have great sences of smell. Sun tan lotion and other things have very strong smells. I have been out fishing with friends and one guy is tearing up the fish while the guy next to him is getting nothing. The only differnse one had lotion on his hands the other nothing. So be careful when fill the oil tank, filling the gas tank, appling sun screen. Clean your hands with something natural that can hide the scents of every day life. Fish know what a ballyhoo smells like and they usually don't like the added smell of strong detergents.

Good Luck

Orange Goop

Orange Goop is the balls! I use the smooth liquid - #44. By the way, I'm not a paid endorser, just a satisfied customer!

Getting the yuck out is not just a smell thing... Bad stuff grows around salt water and infection can set you back more than you think. I'm only now recovered mostly from an infection that started in July!
For me a bucket of water with a little bleach in it does the trick. Not so much that you smell like bleach or chemically burnt flesh but a little. Billfishing down here usually involves gloves but a couple times a year I screw up and get to the fish before I can get the gloves on. When that happens you have some real roughed up skin to hold even more yuck...
