Only rarely do I run them sub surface. I put about 2oz in the front squid just to keep it from dangling clear of the water... If you don't put some up front the waters drag on the back squids will actually put enough tension to get the front ones all the way out of the water... I want my chains most of the time to slither on top of the water...

John if you reverse the direction of the free line back toward the boat and its heavy enough you can impart even more action to the squid through almost a "spring" action...

paul thats how all the squids are i run them back towards the boat the first pic thats how it is shown i connect right to the swivel by a snap swivel from my rod this is the best way i've found as you said it springs forward when hitting and coming out of the water tuna go crazy on it i'm going to make a video of it next year we had tuna all day under it and jumping out of the water just to try and get it then we were picking them off with pitch baits

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thing...I only sometimes do it with squid but its a favorite of mine to do to my squasher series lures... With them little flat heads they dance crazy on the "spring".
