SINCE 52 PEOPLE BEFORE ME DO NOT SHARPEN THEIR HOOK.....I WILL COVER A FEW POINTERS...I WAS HOPING THE BEAST WOULD CHIME IN ON THIS ONE BECAUSE HE IS THE BLISTER-MASTER WHEN IT COMES TO PUTTING A POINT ON A MUSTAD

I USE A #10 ******* FILE......I TRY TO UTILIZE THE ENTIRE LENTGH OF THE FILE AS I PUSH FILE OR PULL HOOK

SOME GUYS PULL THE HOOK DOWN THE LENTGH OF THE BLADE AND THEN SOME GUYS PUSH THE FILE DOWN THE POINT

I AM ONLY INTERESTED IN "THE POINT" OF THE HOOK................I DO NOT CREATE A CUTTING EDGE ON ANY PART OF THE HOOK AS THIS "SLICES" THE MEAT ON ENTRY.....THEREFORE ALLOWING EASY EXIT OF A HOOK

I PUSH THE HOOK USING THREE ANGLES FOR MY FILE WHEN ADDRESSING THE POINT

NICE STEADY MOVEMENTS TOWARDS THE POINT WHILE GENTLY LIFTING THE FILE UPWARD AND AWAY SO NOT TO "CURL" THE TIP

THE EXTREME END OF THE POINT SHOULD HAVE THE THICKNESS OF A FINE HAIR WHEN YOUR DONE

As usual Box gets right to the point . I use a ******* file as well. Although I have had great results using my dremel tool and a medium to fine sanding drum.

Same method as BOX, I also like using a diamond hone too.

I use this type of file to sharpen the point. I know it is sharp by gently dragging the point across the fleshy part of my thumb (opposite the nail) and if it catches then I know it will work just fine on a fish.

I ues a Smith's diamond file. Even sharpens chromed hooks easily. Chrome is too hard for a standard file to cut.

Or better yet, buy good hooks to begin with. (I've found after years that Owner hooks are the very best that money can buy.)

I've had one of these for over 20 years and I'm still on the first ceramic wheel. I use it for hooks as well as filing guide feet when building rods
