Someone be so stupid? You spend thousands of dollars
enter a tournament , bring the boat down, buy bait, hotel
accomidations etc. and not A: read the rules B: not even be
legal to fish C: have the gall to actually bring a fish to the scales.
Check out the Big Rock web page.
It seems a boat out of Wilmington entered, fished and wieghed
what would now be 2nd place Blue without having a HMS permit.
Bert i think this is the second time it happened in as many touraments. I think i heard it also happened in the swansboro tournament a couple of weeks ago. I have seen this happen too frequently in tournaments. No Permit, Didn't turn in catch reports, Didn't call in layday. This all falls on the captain unless otherwise specified before hand and agreed upon by the crew. I screwed up last year and did not turn in a catch report by 7:00PM in our labor day marlin club tournament. This was also the final leg of our three tournament series. The fish I neglected to report would have landed us in 4th place. Lucky for me they only paid the top three spots but I would have felt like an ass if I had screwed up becasue I didn't follow the rules. Know the rules and make sure they are followed if the captain delegates something to another crew member remember the words of Ronald Ragen - Trust by Verify (I think that was him)
Yea, I totally don't get it. For my boat we have the HMS permit, along with state numbers, P numbers, state comm license, operators license, dolphin wahoo license and a mackerel license.
Its a bunch of stuff to keep up with, but you need to take the time to read the rules, or you will get burned.
Bill, tourny aside. They weren't even legal to fish. My 12 year old
nephew knows you have to a a licence to catch bluegills in the local
pond. Grown men have no excuse.
